Hiya

I'm slowly coming round to the idea that perhaps I should have a go at a track day before the summer is over.

I really want to improve my road riding skill and learn how my new bike feels when I'm pushing a bit harder in the hope I'll gain some confidence. Everyone says a track day is the best thing to do.

I often travel to track days with my hubby so I have a fair idea of what they are about but am still very nervous of having a go myself, even the novice groups look experienced!!

Can anyone recommend a novice, novice day! or even a ladies only day/evening?

What the hell is the difference of getting over taken by a female rather than male? Eh?

I've never understood this either, most of the time it's hard to tell if the persons male/female.

I wouldn't worry about heading out in a novice's session, if needs be ask for a newbie bib (if they still do these). For example my last trackday the novice group was very novice (to the point where they pretty much all stopped at the hairpin).

Most of the time, for women or men, they don't seem to like being over taken by a woman on a 'normal' trackday Smile.

Statistics would suggest a women only trackday would be slower.

I think hottrax may do something around what you are looking for, by the way.

Men don't like being over taken by a woman on the road.. let alone on the track Smile

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with a beginners track day/women only. You won't push yourself as much as you would probably like. Just go for a pace day, I did my first pace day at Cadwell on a race weekend (unfortunately) which meant there were racers even in the novice group. I still enjoyed myself and only really got ruffled in the session before lunch.

Lots of orgainsers do Novice days/evenings which are aimed at first timers. This are often very good as they tend to be a little less intimidating.

Novice groups on normal trackdays can indeed have quite a variety of performance levels your quite right. But to be honest once you've done one you will wonder what you were worrying about. No one ever takes notice of who is the slowest, you just ride at your own pace.

The first ever couple of sessions will always be slow, but as the day progresses you will get quicker as you learn the track & your bike a bit more.

Tiger, my other half is wanting to get a track day under her belt and has similar feelings towards the matter as you.

She's been to loads of trackdays before to watch, but the recents ones shes been paying close attention to the level of riding in the novice group and has found herself saying "i can ride better than that!". She now can't wait to get on the track.

We are both booked into a Bikesafe track evening at Cadwell on the 15th which will give her an idea what it'll be like to ride on the track and get a bit of practise in before her first proper trackday which is good

Feisty racing girls organised a female only trackday in wales I think.

But any novice group at any trackday will be perfectly suitable for a first time rider.

Maybe avoid the track if there's a race weekend straight after, or it'll be swamped with racers.

Maybe get an instructor to keep an eye on you aswell.

Can see your point but being overtaken isn't a problem, its a certainty!!

Keir thanks for the info its looks like just what I'm looking for, but that is expensive!! If I book onto it perhaps we can arrange to get in touch and provide each other with moral support!!

Will also look into the bikesafe one at Cadwell.

Thanks for the other suggestions, will check them all out.

When I did a trackday at Snett last year, there was a woman going very slow on a R6 with one of the instrucotrs following her around, she seemed to be enjoying herself and most riders in the Novice group were giving her a wide berth anyway. The only people who look down on slow riders are those who should be in a faster group anyway.

Have had a look regarding the Brands novice track day, I'd be happy to do it but hubby thinks its way over priced considering its just on the indi track, apparently its only got five corners, plenty as far as I'm concerned!!

Anyway, was thinking about the Ron Haslam race school, spoke to a woman there who says they have lots of first timers there who just want to gain some confidence.

Its more or less the same cost and although you only get three track sessions you get taught some theory and when your out on the track its one instructor to two pupils.

Thought it sounded pretty good.

The Ron Haslam day is good if you want to get faster etc. But when you look at the price compared to the amount of track time you get you're often better booking a normal trackday and just collaring an instructor or two.

The instructors on HOTTRAX days I've found to be very very helpfull.

Just book any trackday, a novice group is just that, for novices. If you're worried about the pace, why not go along and watch one.

And about Brands indy only having 5 corners... I don't even know where to start. It's a very very cool circuit, certainly not boring, and definitely technical enough for anyone!

Thumbs Up Yes they are, they are fantastic Thumbs Up
They will offer whatever support or help you want from just watching your back to stop people overtaking in dodgy places right through to full on tuition.
The advice they offer is useful, relevant to you and realistic.
Plus they're really friendly - and FREE!
