Hullo.

Not really Sos but more a question directed at those that have knowledge in DIY decorating.

Have tiled the kitchen as per picture but the extract hood/tube for the aga is causing a bit of a problem. What do I do about it exactly. Confused I'm attempting to get all of this done before my dad returns from his holiday and it was him that put in the hole for the extract unit (note the dodgy circular cout out in the wood - he lacks patience like me Wink) No the question - what do I....erm....do exactly here? Confused No idea whats done in other kitchens but I'm not clued up on it. I don't have any fancy electrical tile cutter so it'd be a problem cutting that kind of shape out. Laughing

The 'wall' in the back ground is 6mm 'plywood' by the way.

Thanks in advance.

P.S Also...the tiles to the left of the aga....bring them down to the floor/skirting board or leave them there and wall paper below them? I don't really know whats the ebst way to do it but I would have though tiles would look neater....?

Hi,

Usually you can get a stanley knife, score the aga shape and the use a hammer to lightly tap the circle out. All fancy tile cutter things do is this, but given the size of the tile it could be hard.

This is also given that you can temporarily remove the aga pipe, if not, cut out a circle and split the circled out square and cut it in two and tile around it.

Hope this helps. Confused

^^^ Pretty much what he said.

You can get hack saw blades that are for cutting tiles, they are actually round as opposed to having 'teeth'. You could use this to cut the tile to the shape you require, of course you'd need two halves of the tile so you can fit it around the pipe!

Your other option is to get some 'Tile Nibblers'. These as the name suggests nibble small chunks of the tile away until you get your desired shape, but these might not give such a tidy finish.

Another vote for the tile saw. A nice piece of kit. I'd measure, maybe template, and cut a U shape (upsidedown) in the tile to go over the pipe. If you want to tidy it up do a smaller U with what you cut out to tidy up the bottom. Looks like the pipe is only 1 tile size so should be easy to fit.

As for the left either tile to the floor or use the smaller coloured edge tiles that are at the top under what tiles are there. That may then look like a continue of the splashback. Then paper/paint the wall.

Another idea for the left is to put a piece of worktop there. Batton underneath and a pole for a leg. Of course that might cause access problems if you're used to cutting that corner from the door Confused

Just my thoughts. HTH Thumbs Up

Have been using a tile saw to cut around eletrical outlets. Trouble is, if I try and do it with just one tile, I'm cutting such a thin part going around the extract that when sawing, it just breaks off. Confused

Could try it with two, halve tiles. Thinking

Thanks folks.

Angle grinder + stone cutting disk.

Angle grinder, the do-it-all tool.

Soldering is a bit awkward with one.

Lucky I'm off to the pub. There could have been a world first attempt at friction-heated soldering going on.

<hides angle grinder so it can't be found on return from pub>

If you're removing that plate, by the looks of things, the tile will need split and then nipped. You may get away with nipping an arch out of the tile. Do you have tile nippers?
