Hey i'm just in the market not to start getting all my clothing and protection for when i get my cruiser 125 but am confused by the massive choice of jackets and helmets.

I have seen some nice helmets for around the £80mark but have been told that these may not offer much protection. Jacket wise i have been looking at leather ones in the region of £120-30 in Hein Gerret (i know that how it is not spelt but can not remember it's name), they do have protectors but not the best from what i can gather but then i saw textile ones for much less with body protection which seemed more than the leather one

I don't want to pay through the roof but i also want some sore of protection. i'm calling for the advice of those who know to set me on the straight and narrow please.

i bought a set of akito python 2 jacket and trousers for £130.

they're fine for the money and have plenty of armour although some of it is pretty lightweight. it can be replaced though.

pretty much anything from Hein Gericke is going to be decent quality.

Fopr helmets, the most important thing is fit. no matter how much you spend, a helmet that doesn't fit is going to be dangerous from the point of view if it's uncomfortable, you'll not be able to concentrate properly, and if it doesn't fit right, it could come off/shift/twist in the event of an acident.

£80 helmets offer no less protection than helmets that cost way more, assuming they are built to the same standard (shoud have a gold sticker on the back) the more expensive helmets might be built to a higher standard, but ultimately, there's not a HUGE amount of difference in the real world. You won't get a lightweight shell, with removeable lining, and quick release visors, nor a particularly quiet, or well ventialted helmet for less, but safetywise, you'll be fine.

no "dangerous" helmets are sold.

Would you recommend getting the stuff now or shall i wait untill the bike show at the NEC in oct? I've never been to it before but have been to similar shows for sports and stuff as a child and remember getting offers on loads of different things.

Is it the same at the bike show?
