I'm moving to Earlsfield, London (SW18) in a couple of weeks and thinking about getting a bike. My only concern really is leaving it on the road at night as I have no garage / garden etc. I will probably use it to commute so it would be parked close to work during the day.

The bike itself will most likely be a 125 although I could do DAS and get myself a beast of a bike (I'm 29) but would rather build up slowly.

How worried should I be that it will get lifted? Will the bike be wrecked after a British winter?

Cheers,

James.

Most modern 125's have alarms or anti theft devices. If you a small yard chuck it in there if not you would have to leave it on the road but I would invest in an alarm if you do not have one and a big oxford chain.

If you plan on leaving it out side i would say get some thing cheap which people arnt going to want to steal, some thing like a honda cg125. A good chain and a locked bike cover should also work to put any one off stealing it. A cg will also be cheaper to insure than most other 125s.

Earlsfield is a reasonable area, low bike theft (compared to my hometown, tooting Wink ) get a brightly coloured disclock to deter the casual thief, the big boys with their white vans are lifting gixers and daytonas down the road in wimbledon Smile
