Deleted explorer on task manager doh!

Somehow I was randomly ending some processes on the task manager and I accidently hit the explorer one.
I now have no start bar or anything, I feel so lucky that I left BCF open as this is my only life line so to speak

How can I get it all back????

there is a way to reload it which i forget.

just ctrl-alt-del and restart your PC.

EDIT - ctrl-alt-del then FILE --> NEW TASK (RUN) --> explore.exe i think

click new task and just type "explorer" (don't need the .exe)

S'a common thing - if you're into competitive benchmarking etc, closing explorer is good practice due to the amount of ram it frees up. S'something I also do when working on large images in either photoshop or coreldraw, or occasionally when video editing with Premiere Pro...

State your source for that particular fact... Explorer.exe on my work rig here is currently consuming 59Mb of ram, and that's on a setup with 2Gb of ram total.

Everything running is essential for what I'm currently doing. If I need to free up ram / swap space, explorer is always the quick-ditch.

explorers ram useage depends on a number of thingss. It doesn't have a fixed ram useage so it's not uncommon for it to use a lot more than 6mb. It's also quite important for windows to run correctly so there is no need to kill it.

Oh and changing to the classic theme with all the eye candy off can also speed up your system a bit.

Right click on my computer, select properties, then select advanced, once in there it's under performance.

Choose "Adjust for best performance".

No shit. What i meant was that if a noob closes explorer then windows isn't going to work like normal. Yes all your other processes are still running but you cannot use the gui correctly until it is running again.

Yes you can get explorer replacments but i didn't even mention that so whatever.

No offence to the original poster but he didn't seem to know much about windows so i was simply telling him that he might as well leave explorer open despite what other people are telling him.
