They generally dont bother about black visors aslong as you arent driving at night with a full tint on or anything stupid like that.

The legal ones are FAR from black, just lightly tinted. I have been using a black visor for 20 years and never been done for it, so don't worry. Thumbs Up

I got pulled for the first time ever a few weeks ago. Was doing 39 in a 30 and the only thing he wanted to talk to me about was the dark visor. Shocked

I've been wearing an Iridium visor for about 4 years.
Never once been spoken to about that either.

I think it's like having loud cans...

If you don't act like a prat in other areas, then loud cans (apart from the REALLY loud ones), Black/mirrored visors etc seem to get ignored.

The REAL bone of the Feds is the Small number plate, they don't like them at all.

I say buy your Black visor and don't worry.
I wear my iridium at night, but wouldn't wear Black after dark though.

Hi all,

Whats the worst that the police can do if they are having a bad day and decide to pull you for your visor as far as points/fines go? Confused

I ride with a illegal black visor and ive rode past cops and they havent pulled me, and if u think u may end up riding in the dark one day either take a clear visor with you or put the clear one on before you leave home, ive had to ride home a few times at silly O clock in the morning in pitch black with my black visor on which is very difficult as u cant see thru the fucker so u have to have it up which slows you down to around 60mph MAX on a naked bike, and even at that speed if its a coldish night yours eyes water like fuck and 60mph bugs are painful.

While on the subject of black visors, is it ok to clean them with windowlene (what i use on my clear one) or will this damage the tint?

NO!!!

Plain Hot Water, under the tap, then wipe in ONE DIRECTION ONLY (NOT in circles) with a lens/Visor cloth. Then dry with a similar (obviously dry) cloth.

This has kept my Iridium looking as new for the last four years.

You can buy special visor cleaner, but why bother?

Not sure, but I believe they have been known to confiscate them.

Whether this is legal for them to do is another matter.

I am 90% sure it an endorsable offence now, so 3 points and fine.

Legal tints are pathetic, dark tints are far safer in strong light.

It won't take as much abuse as a standard visor in the scratching stakes though, or at least mine didn't Sad Thumbs Down

Mine was stamped "not warranted shatterproof" however it held up fine when i faceplanted the kerb.

Faceplanting the kurb, that actually made me LOL in the true sense.

Anyway, my dark visors have always been tinted plastic, and as such, you clean them however the hell you want.

Iridium finishes are different I realise, but I cannae be arsed with them.

I use my dark visor a lot, no problems from police about it. Although if I'm in danger of it getting dark I'll always take my clear one with me too.

I think the legal stuff is it has to let through 80% of ambient light. Maybe 50%, I forget. Either way, most normal tinted visors are illegal.

You clearly don't ride fast enough for the tint to become 'bugsplat' coloured.

I use the wipes they give you with KFC buckets Thumbs Up

Nah I'm just lazy...

Oh no wait...you're right...I do ride bloody slowly. Laughing

Used to have a dark visor for when I wanted to look 'cool'. But now I just couldn't give a rats arse. The hyper optiks insert dulls the sun glare down a bit to make things visible enough.

I do it to avoid the brightness of sunlight, and when it's proper sunny I love my dark visor.

It does also look SO DAMN COOL.

I love them big moths that bloody splat your visor as if someone has thrown a spoon of semolina at you.

Fair makes you gag when you clean them bastards off.

I have a black visor ready for riding in bright sunlight... and a clear visor with hyper-optik insert for all other times.
Whenever I use the black visor though I always have a bum bag/visor carrier with the clear one as a reserve.... "I was just about to swap them over officer" Rolling Eyes Wink

I've never had trouble with the police from using either a black or iridium visor, (touch wood). Don't bother with a legal tinted visor, they are not worth it in my opinion. And given the choice again I would buy a black visor rather than an iridium one.
