I am about to embark on my first restoration project so i thought id make a journal about it. Here goes....

The bike in question is a 1970's (old S reg) Honda 250 superdream twin. Its got approx 35k on the clock and hasnt moved for 20 years. Its owned by my father and was the bike that played on my mind for many years as a child wondering how fast it was and how brilliant it would be to ride (obviously ive since learnt that its slow and old, lol.). However not wanting the bike that guided me into bikes to be left on the scrap heap forever i asked my dad if i could work on it, to my surprise he said yes so work began!
First of was unearthing the beast from behind carpet, wood, cement you name it and it was there hiding the bike from view in the corner of the garage.

voila.....

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/keir_compact/dreamsiders.jpg

At this stage dad admitted that he tried to get it going "about 10 years ago" but it kept backfiring. well at least it started......

noted so far:

1) Battery dead as dead gets!
2) throttle stuck. not sure if its the twist grip, cables or carbs.
3) brakes. back brake is fine but front has no fluid. pads fine.
4) it still kicks over so not seized.

More to come

s reg are you sre it's not a Dream as apposed to a superdream.

I had an S reg dream looked better than the superdream in my opinion.

Cool Thumbs Up

Its somewhat satisfying to dismantle something and reassemble again, like a big boys mechano set.

Recenetly I'v been looking at some 'basket case' Royal Enfield stuff and keep checking out BSA bantoms for a nice little resto job.

Piccies please Wink

It does appear to be a dream! in fact its a CB250T Dream at that!
What a start.....

Now having searched i came across THIS which is EXACTLY the same. however its in alot better condition than my one and cheaper than the parts needed to get mine running! Dilema, do i carry on spending over the odds on a bike just because its "the one"?

Is it worth spending money on.... of course not!

If you are thinking 'commercially' the thing will never be worth the money you are going to spend on it, and if you sell it on, you will certainly not get your money back. Thats that out of the way..

If we were all that sensible, though, we would all save the environment and cycle to work preventing globalwarming, pollution, and the imminent death and crippling injuries all the TV adds seem to tell us are waiting just around the corner.

We are, of course, all barking mad. I know I am! I am currently commuting through heavy London traffic on an 1100 Katana....That being the case, go with gut instinct.

If the bike means something to you, fix it! Hunt down parts from scrappies, patch up what you can, and use it as a great way to learn how to do all the restoration jobs that your 'next' project might need. It's a hobby. Enjoy it, take pride in the results, and don't think too much about the cost Very Happy

Also they are mechanicaly very similar to a superdream so a lot of parts may be interchangeable, and scrap yards used to be full of super dreams.

works begin!

- first off the tyres needed inflating so hooked them up and job done.
- seat removed to get to bits and pieces.
- tank shut off and removed.
- bike rolled out into the middle of the garage.
- front brake drained of fluid (very little)
- brake line removed
- caliper removed and slightly cleaned up. pads ok, seals appear ok.
- brake resevoir, brake lever and mirror removed.
- hooked up to old car battery - all electrics / bulbs work.

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/keir_compact/dreamstrippedrs.jpg

Problems at the min:

- throttle does not move. cables all appear ok believed to be carb end not working properly.
- cant remove carbs due to space confinements near engine. probably going to remove engine as frame paint is peeling and slightly rusty.

What kind of job are you looking to do with it, a restor so it runs and look ok or a proper spandangle job???

Are you getting it running ok, or stripping it down and repainting bits etc?

It's been a long time. If you get the airbox out I think theres just enough room to pop them out of the rubbers and wiggle them out.
