Hi guys,

Used to have a Clifford Concept 650 on my car & it managed to keep those chavs with sticky fingers off it & was wondering if anyone can suggest an alarm for a bike? Are they worth it or would it just be better to buy a £100-£200 lock & chain?

Any help is appreciated Wink

there are actually disk locks....which have an alarm on em so if disturbed go off....they seem to be a pretty good deterent...although my brother did get his bike stolen once with one of these on it....they wouldnt have been able to move the bike as the lock prevents this...so the only thing we could think of is they lifted the bike onto the back of a ute or trailer...other then that its impossible to move unless u take the disk brake off...

FWIW Carole Nash have an offer for £350 a datatool S4 alarm + 4 free bits.

A few insurance companies give discount if alarm fitted. Even then it has to be on their approved list and you may have to prove professionally fitted (rather than diy). Even then IMO the discount is tiny compared to the cost of such an alarm. That said they won't even touch some bike, let alone give discount, unless alarm/immobiliser fitted. You'll also be advised to have a trickle charger to make sure it doesn't flatten your battery.

I think sickpup is the person you need some advice from as he knows how to fit and remove these.

IMO if you want an alarm look at the ones on eBay - cheetah springs to mind. Used to be about £20 to £30 for alarm & immobiliser. Friend has one, it works!

HTH Thumbs Up

These are pretty good. Strong and easy to carry around, except it makes the bike easier to steal compared to if you chained it to something solid. Protects you from TWOCing chavs who fancy their luck at hot-wiring, but not to organised people who'll have the trailer or pickup waiting Confused

I'd recommend ye good olde' solid chain lol. Bastard to carry round, but at least you'll still have a bike to carry it with Very Happy

Big D - I'm in the market for a disc lock/alarm myself and just found Infinity Motorcycles (www.infinitymotorcycles.co.uk) have a deal on an Oxford Boss Disc Alarm with a free 1.5m chain for £60. Can't argue with that really - even cheaper than fleabay.

Cool

the alarms are definately worth it in my opinion, i fit car alarms mainly where i work but have done a few bike alarms aswell and i say they do a cracking job.
I fit laserline stuff mainly which has never gone wrong for me or one of the customers.. but i will admit that the Datatool alarms are probably better suited to bikes.
