Right, I started looking for a moped as winter is coming and I don’t fancy taking the Ninja in all conditions.

I’d say my budget was £250, possibly a little more.
Would you say I’d a get a good C90 for that?
The reason I say C90 is the fact it looks wicked and is dirt cheap to run.
I don’t want a fancy looking boy racer moped thing, I want maybe a retro looking thing that doesn’t mind the cold.

Thanks!

Going rate for C90's is £350-400. Much sought after vehicles.

Technically not a moped either, they are a motorcycle.

You might get an MOT fail that needs the rear subframe welding up for £250.

Might get a C50 for that much.

Winter hack = MZ 125 two stroke Thumbs Up

Nah, the 2-stroke ones. Eastern block mass transport for the proletariat.

Simple as a very simple thing and work in all temperatures. Older ones are the TS125 with chrome side panels and have a certain retro appeal. Newer ones are called an ETZ125 with a wierd-shaped tank.

Even the bigger ones like the 250 or 301 can be found for small change if you keep your eyes peeled.

Actually there are six on ebay now, varying from 125 to 301cc well within your stated price. The ISDT one will go for a couple of grand because they are a bit special.

Do a search in 'motorcycles' for 'MZ'.

If nothing else, they have bags of character and outperform a C90 in every way (including odour, dependant of what sort of 2-stroke oil you use).

A TS125 in all it's communist glory.

The MZ does look a nice retro cool bike for peanuts.

I know what people are saying about the C90, its so uncool that ts cool Laughing They certainly aint cheap on ebay, probably as Stinkwhell said, they are desirable and bullet proof.

Oh yeah, parts. Cost sweeties, usually delivered within 48h from Germany. They have parts in stock for all MZ bikes right back to the second world war (when they were known as DKW).

You shouldn't need them anyway. Just make sure the gear lever return spring is working. Only costs a couple of quid but it is a bastard to change.

https://www.mz-b.de

Places in the UK do parts too but I prefer to stick with the ever efficient Germans, you just look up the exploded diagrams and order the part number by email. If you're stuck, phone them, they have good English speakers.

I've been offered a C90 with 28K on the clock for £280. T & MOT.
Might be tempted.

That MZ look's military though! HA

MZs are seriously brilliant. I used to rag mine between Chelmsford and Bristol at least once a week, flat out all the way, about 80mph, great fuel consumption.

Parts are plentifull on ebay.de

They're cheap over here aswell, looking about about £300 for a decent one on eBay. I picked up a goodun for £212.47 though.

And of course they're good enough for trackdays Wink

I had a 125 then a 250, the 125 touched 70 on the clocks once, the 250 will go off the clocks. Both excellent machines. They may be 2 stroke, but they're reliable.

The H100 engine has power characteristics similar to a trials bike engine almost. Lots of low-mid power and then it goes very flat. They do wheelie off the thottle in 1st, ive seen a mate do it on his years ago. Another mate who had a full power (powervalve pegged open) TZR125L, could'nt even get a couple of inches off the deck, despite revving the engine, slipping/flicking the clutch, and dumping the clutch at high revs. he was very pissed off that the little Honda 100cc could come past right on the balance point time after time, and then he gave up!

Which is why the engines are very popular for fitting to MTX50s (and apparently bolt pretty much straight in).

Take someone on the back of a H100 and see how much the front end lifts up. dont need much revving Laughing
