Hi everyone I could do with some advice, I have seen a bike for sale a Honda Hornet 03 plate. Its from a dealer and in excellent condition service history, log book etc etc.
My only concern is that it is an import. It has one previous owner who bought the bike while in the armed forces in Germany and has brought the bike back to the Uk when he returned. It was first registered in Germany in 03 and then brought to the uk in 05.

What does everyone think?? (see my other post for pics)

Cath.

Do you know for definite it's an import model?

You'll most likely find, if it was owned by a member of one of the UK Armed Forces that it'll be UK spec anyway. Most Cars and bikes owned by Forces members are.

If it is an import (German Model) then it still shouldn't be a problem, the usual imported quirks will apply of course...

Headlamp wrong way, KPH clocks etc.

I've owned imports, albeit they were Japanese ones, and at least he headlamp shone the correct way.

I don't see much of a problem, if it's a good bike go for it.

Should be fine. There are so many imports in the country now, it's not really an issue. Out of the 3 bikes i've had 2 have been imports and apart from a few parts being different it's the same as owning a uk bike.

The clocks are KPH but have a sticker over the top and a converter on. I just need to ask about the light

Thanks for that guys. Thumbs Up

Is there anything I need to look for on the bike. Its been kept in a garage as there is very little corrosion. Been kept very well. 5565 miles is not too bad either for an 03 at least he used it.

The manual is in German as he bought it there in 03 then came home in 05 and brought it with him

Think I will go for it. The garage is Earnshaw in West Yorkshire the guy was very helpful.

So long as it's in good condition then there really shouldn't be too much of a problem.

It's a Honda after all, your investing into there reputation for build quality and reliability.
You have a CBR6 engine, and they're bullet proof for the most, so no probs there.

Looks clean enough from the pic.

It looked spot on, no marks or anything. Been well looked after not much corrosion even on the mirror poles justs a tad there.

I know its £2999 but seen as they will take my bike inc picking it up and bring my new one to me I am happy. Also the pic is before it was cleaned he said it will be much cleaner before I get it.

When you say the alarm is best for the money is that for £250? as in there are better ones for more money?

Its only a deterant at the end of the day as I have 2 chains and a Motrax Vishas on the disk.

If you want a deterrant, a £20 one off ebay will do the job.

Remember, if buying from a dealer, if it's not road worth for any reason, they have to make it so - so do kick up a fuss if you find any oddities.

both my bikes are imports - tho direct from japan. not that a euro import is a worry - they're all made in japan anyway - I would only change the light if it needs it - i suspect it has a uk light in any event.
