Hello People
Talking as someone who gets exited and scared at anything over 80 Mph, I have just been out for a blast on Mrs Stalks CBR 600F. As I am used to the 600 Divvy I find the CBR amazing, particularly on acceleration. It was “WOW – This thing should not go this fast”

Now, once you have all stopped laughing there is a question here.

The Honda is regarded as a good all rounder but not particularly brilliant at anything, (that is if I am to believe what I read). So the question is: Is there really that much difference with 600 sports bikes? And is a boring old fart like me ever going to notice? Or do these differences only become noticeable when the bikes are used to their full potential by riders better than me?

Just out of interest really….
Cheers

There's quite a bit of difference with the newer sports 600s.

Not with acceleration, but with handling, riding position and 'feel'.

My CBR F(Sport..) pulls harder for longer than my mates 2000 R6.

I could pass him relitivly easily even when his throttle fully open Shocked

aren't the early R6s carburetted? I think that may explain it...

it doesnt take a good rider to pin a bike in a straight line, bikes with more grunt or more revs - which are quick - can be very exciting - thats why I love em.... any sports 600 should make your divvy seem slow, which in the real world it is for a bike of such cc's - it's a commuter... a canny all rounder but a bit boring (if handling at speed appeals to you) infact a sports 400 will also be quicker for that matter and even nimbler

you dont need to be Rossi until you approach at breakneck speed stationary traffic or a corner, I guess thats when riding experience and abiltiy comes into its own.... some of the newer 600's are excellent handling machines and can be thrown around with great ease with some serious practice (serious practice often also includes an off or two)

If you are not an avid fan of throwing a bike around in the twisties (like me) but you like that delivery of acceleration, I would reccomend a litre machine - perhaps FZ1 or similair - same package as the divvy but more grunt.

I've recently been made friends with a mates neighbour who rides a 600F, but the older model with the plastic intakes and the blended blue and red colour scheme. I ride a 2004 GSXR-600 and when we swapped bikes for a quick go I couldn't believe the difference...

The first obvious thing is the position, the 600F felt like a tourer compared to my bike. Generally speaking, everything felt alot softer and more pipe and slippers rather than razor blades and cocaine.

Performance wise they're still pretty close, for average road riders like myself anyway, I'm sure out on the track in the hands of an expert the differences would become more obvious. Oh one thing though that I did notice was the stopping power, my K4 was out braking the 600F on most corners and it wasn't down to me trying to out do him.....

Thumbs Up
