Have you or would you fill up at a petrol station and ride off without paying?

I was at a Q8 garage, out in the sticks, filling up and I got £13 in the tank. I knew the garage had no CCTV at all, and if they did it wouldn’t see my plate.
I didn’t ride off because I would have felt pretty bad about it but I thought if I did, I would have gained some of that petrol tax back and had a lovely ride for free……lol Wink

I went in to tesco the other day.... I usually use the card thingy in their machines but when I pulled up it was knackered so I had to choose the 'Pay at kiosk' option... by the time I'd filled my tank I'd completley forgotten that i hadn't 'paid at the pump' as I usually do so just rode straight of the forecourt & headed home.

It was only when i got about 2 miles away i realised that I hadn't paid!!! Doh...

Embarassed

i did go back to square it up tho and they were quite understanding Smile

Stealing is stealing. Confused I'm not a thief, I'm not going to risk a prison sentence for £15's worth of fuel. I choose to use the roads, so I pay the extortionate fuel prices.

funny story about this from my mate who is a copper

a young tearaway steals a car, and charges up a strip of dual carriageway that has traffic lights every few hundred yards at 120mph or thereabouts.

the police who were following have to back off after a certain speed so he got away. They didnt identify him so he got away.

He then went to a petrol station with CCTV and proceeded to fill his car, and pay for the petrol. In paying for the petrol, there was a nice clear pic of his face and then another of him getting back into the car.

So if he hadnt paid for his petrol he would have been fine, but as it was he was soon picked up and had to pretend he didnt know the car was stolen or some such nonsense.

What a twat. If you've gone to the trouble of stealing a car. You don't pay for the fuel to put into it. Confused

There are currently no stations in my area that will authorize a fill-up without prior payment. I accidentally did once, back in my days of tending the register, and the sonuvabitch filled up, then roared off like the place was on fire.

That system surely must be prone to abuse?

"Yes sir, just 50 pence of unleaded please" ... Fills up with £10's worth. Razz

except some systems allow the pump to shut off after a certain amount has been dispensed.

They are still fairly common where I work.

90% get caught because we have a numberplate recognition camera so they are on camera before they're even in the garage.

The other 10% have false plates and the likes.

One time customers managed to barricade someone who was intending to drive off and on closer inspection he had 4 plates on the front so he could swop them around!

Erm, if there's CCTV, do expect them to come chasing.

It's not up to them to ask if you have petrol, as far as the law is concerned (and as far as I know).

Correct.

I generally do ask if someone has fuel, but it's not really up to us. Thumbs Up
