Anybody know how to clean aluminum rust from engine casing, have tried several aluminium cleaners no real joy. The best I found has been Coca Cola and fine wire wool. Scary or what ????.

Strong alloy wheel cleaner can work quite well, or even Household oven cleaner, though ive never tried this myself.

If the casing is really bad, then you could try acidic Driveway/patio cleaner. It would probably react very strongly with alloy parts, seeing as it can eat away at block paving etc. Wear hand and eye protection, and brush the neat liquid into the part, before promptly rinsing with a hose.

its not rust thats a name for iron oxide but the corrison you have any acid will do but a ally specfic one will reduce the chance of damaging anything, fyi if you collect the power up and mix it with oron oxide you get an explosive called thermite Very Happy
