Hi

https://www.alg.gov.uk/cat.asp?cat=954

So, how does a lobby group get a .gov URL?

All the best

So, a lobby group working for the government can have a .gov URL? Hell, does that mean any old employee can have one as well?

Seems strange that a commercial lobby group can have one.

All the best

i dont think they are commercial.

they represent 33 councils, so its just as if each council had the same lobby group but roled into one

its part of the councils. It may be a seperate legal entity its still the council(s) in all but name.

they might have charitable status but I doubt they are commercial

they are a lobby group for the councils that lobby the (central) government to give more stuff to the councils

So should a lobby group (who are at best political) be a .gov ?

As far as I was aware those urls were reserved for true government organisations rather tham just subcontractors.

All the best

Keith

They are a lobby group, which are paid for by subscriptions from councils and other government organisations. They are not funded directly by Governement as such, but are providing a service to the public via a commercial subscription system. They have turnover, and probably profits, therefore they are not a "government organisation" and as such, I feel should not be permitted to use the .gov domain.
