Hi guys, quick Q from my missus, see below

When people do their car test they have the option to do the test in their own car provided they have the insurance and someone drives with them in the car to the test centre.

If you do a restricted bike test of course you can use your own bike to do the test.

Why is it so different for a big bike test? for example if you have your own bike with insurance etc. why is it not possible for a friend/relative to ride your bike to the test centre (provided they have the correct insurance etc) and then as you do your test on your bike if you pass all is fine and you drive your bike home if you fail then your friend/ relative rides your bike home for you!!

It just seems a bit unfair really.

I thought it was possible too, as long as she doesn't ride the bike on the road herself before the actual test?

as long as supervised and insured i believe it is fine. One of the guys at a biking magazine (i think it was a polish geezer at "BIKE" or summit) did it on a big litre MZ i think.

I did my direct access test on my own bike (Kawasaki GPZ550), just took it up there on the back of a trailer.

Hardest part was getting insurance for it (e.g. on a 550 whilst on a provisional licence).

So if you can get someone to ride it up there for you, shouldn't be a problem.

Doesn't it go something like this?...

You can do your test on your own "Big" bike, but if you want to ride it to the test centre yourself you need to be escorted by a qualified instructor.
Otherwise a mate (or someone), who has a licence to take it there for you.

Actually I've just realised that I know someone who did her DAS on her own bike, including test. I think the instructor rode to the test centre with her, I'll ask. I also think she may have been insured with Carole Nash cos she was after she passed.

I shall enquire, and either get back to you or get her to reply herself (not sure she's registered on here yet).

I did my test on my own bike.

My husband rode it up there for me, we attached the L plates and then off I went.

I took everything with me - V5, MOT, insurance - but the examiner didn't need to see them. Rolling Eyes I just had to sign a disclaimer at the top of the form to say I was insured, and he did check the tax disk on the bike but that was it. Thumbs Up

My insurance was with Devitt through Churchill. They had no problem with the provisional license.
