Triumph Speed four any good?
I spent the afternoon today oggling a triumph speed four which was an 05 plate with 1200 miles on it (1260 after I'd had a go) , it looked good clean and fantastic for £3800 , it felt like it had the guts to own 600 maybe even 900 Hornets , and seemed
to handle a bit better.
That said I didn't utterly rag it cus I didn't want to break it, though it was modded for single seats (ir the tail was cut off such that a pillion was impossible or are triumph steet bikes like that?)
Thing is I think I was dazzled by it and didn't see any bad points so would anybody care to explain any bad points which the speed four has (and the insurance grouping in TWO has to be wrong no way Jose is it a grp9 , bloody NTV650 is a grp10), apparently owned
for only 4 months by a lottery winner and had some huge chicken strips on it.
any suggestions?

Unfaired TT600. Successfully 'retuned' to have back some of the TT's missing midrange. (My '02 TT didn't have any missing midrange that I could find)
Very comfy, fast, handles better than 99% of other naked 600's (its a TT600 with no fairing). And they are dirt cheap.
At that price, can you afford NOT to! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

as mentioned, a speed four is basically a detuned tt600 which is a proper sports bike. Detuned is good because you have more power in the revs you use most of the time. Not as high peak power, but very few people actually get to use that as its at high revs with full throttle.
Most naked bikes may have the engine of an older sportsbike, but dont have sportsbike standard brakes, frame and suspension. The speed four does.
Having said that, TT600s are very cheap so it might be worth just getting one of those and riding without plastics. You could even sell the plastics on ebay to make it even cheaper.
You can get a 2001 TT600 with 8000 miles for £1800 or less.
an r6 with 25000 miles is about £2500 for a 1999
Having said that, fueling can be a bit iffy on TT600's, and the 2000 TT600 is very peaky with no power through most of the range, with a sudden top end rush. Nice but not really useable for most people.
Handling is a bit more twitchy than a lot of bikes, so try before you buy. Great if you usually ride below 80mph, but if you like high speed stability on fast bends, might not be the bike for you. This twitchyness means its very agile and easy to turn in quickly, but doesnt necessarily hold a line as well as more stable bikes which arent as agile. I like it, as I came from an rs125.
I really shd have taken the panels off my tt600 when i got it, as i have managed to get through a few by being a bit careless.
Having ridden mine faired and unfaired, Id say you dont really need a fairing for speeds less than 100mph, if you are willing to lie on the tank.
I doubt you could get much else as new with that mileage at that price which would be as good.
but everything is cheaper on ebay
how about a 2005 speed four with 1100 miles starting price £2800, buy it now £3100, no bids yet and 20 hours to go. I think he might not get any interest so you could offer a bit lower, but do you want to risk losing it ?

Makes the bargain you had a go on seem overpriced, but i know people like making dealers rich so i wont quibble.
As the ebay one still has 11 months warranty left on it, I dont see much point buying from a dealer though. The ebay one comes with a hugger which is worth having in my opinion.
ok its not on your doorstep, but it would save you £1000. Id be willing to drive a van that distance to pick it up for £500 let alone £1000
on the other hand, you could buy something like this

a better bike with very slight damage for the price you were thinking of paying for the speed four
ebay will have more of these ____________________ colin1 is officially faster than god |
