hello guys,
I recently bought one of those gps trackers, fitted it, hardwired it to a 12-5v stepdown supply, and it works perfect. For one goddamn week. It will turn itself off for no reason, with a full battery. It cannot be fixed.

have any of you actually tried these trackers, and had them/tested them for longer than a week.

any help would be amazing, coming across chinese rubbish at the moment.

I bought another, that literally snapped as i pushed the simcard in. They all seem to be tatt, my budget is probably 50-80 for one. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

oh also it HAS to be one you wire in, i dont like maintenance.

cheers.

I bought a cheap, £25-30 Rewire Security Chinese GPS tracker around Feb I think because of a change in parking situation.

It worked fine up until a few weeks ago when it behaved as you described. Full battery and it would turn itself off (after warning of 5% battery).

I found that constant adding/removing of the battery had made the plastic cage inside stretch enough to make the battery too loose.

I am now using a snapped off cocktail stick end to jam down one side to force the battery to make contact.

Its not great, but works and I CBA to do any more than that.

Paddys option looks nice . i may wait for more replies first.

I went one step further, i epoxied the sim card, i then jammed the battery with folded up paper, and epoxied it all together .

Still does it . useless.

Like yourself I gave the chinky "less than a takeaway" priced GPS a try, it didn't turn out too well - I used to message it and sometimes it would reply with aload of nonsense and sometimes wouldn't reply with anything.

Que "you get what you pay for brigade".

Thought about this myself but don't have the time to work on it, or motivation.

I would be happy to a premium for a pre-made PI or arduino, providing it worked reliably and the person who put it all together and programmed it wasn't a potato.

Yeah i got a tk102. Shame. It works well when its on.

I dont wanna waste 70 on one unless it does what it says on the tin . so ideally want some sort of review off someone.

You paid £50 for a GPS tracker and expect ?????

Since you don't want to spend any 'real' money on a tracker (to help protect what you cherish/value) then I won't respond to this thread. Folded arms

Well, that it is with these cheap chinese manufactured devices. You get what you pay. Actually there is another problem with these cheap trackers. A lot of them are incompatible with popular gps softwares. I was assured by one software provider gpswox that any tracker is compatible with software. But that it is - you have to buy a separate vehicle tracking software separately from tracking device.
