Yes, if the accident was through the fault of someone else making a really stupid 'mistake'. Smile

Not exactly food for thought, its not rocket science. Anyone with half a brain cell knows that if you falsely claim, you're making everyones policies increase.

I didn't claim for any personal injury when I had my accident. I only ached so wasn't a claim.

I wasn't going to claim just so I could get some money then pay a bit more insurance next year cause my unneccesary claim had bumped it up!

My Mum got £6k for whiplash. Hit by a Beemer from behind, but she had neck pain for about 5 years afterwards. I think it's pretty much gone now.

My sister and my brother in law both got a cheque through about a week ago for 2500 for whiplash, after being hit head on (other drivers fault)

Yoko the FSA and the FOS regulate EVERYONE when it comes to credit/lending/money in general.

I agree with siggi having worked for a couple of insurance companies myself AND the personal injury side of it.

Dont believe the crap they try and feed you because its just that.

The person feeding you may well believe it but its like siggi said its a very convenient excuse.

I claimed for whiplash, when I saw the insurance doctor it wasn't as bad as whiplash, just soft tissue damage that would heal in 2 years. Still got 2.6k for it.

Rather pleased with that. Particularly seeing as I'm going to pay higher premiums as a result of that crash for the next 5 years, even though it was 100% the other guy's fault.

I had neck and muscle damage after being smacked up the ass by a car when I was on my CG one day, a couple o years back

I got 1K for that

I didn't spend any time off work, but I was in a lot of pain, and it was very uncomfortable for about 4 months
Not nice at all having to do day to d ay stuff like that

So, I was glad I got something, as a way of him saying sorry I guess
Even though the guy wasn't, it was just the solicitors etc.. arguing it out how much to pay up

In July 2005, an idiot ploughed into my stationary car at 60mph, which wrote my car off and could have been a fatal collision. After I gave a statement of the accident to the Police, the guy was cautioned for driving without due care and attention.

I had some pain in my neck and had some phyiso, but the main thing I suffered from was nervousness, sleeping problems and a lack in road confidence which resulted in me selling my bike and putting my learning on hold. I had to see a shrink and I've finally began to move on and don't get flashbacks every day. Hopefully I'll have the confidence to get back on a bike soon too.

So, yes, I claimed on the grounds of phycological damage and slight whiplash. I am due a payout of £2250 any day now and I think it's entirely justified.

I don't condone the claiming culture when it's not genuine, but my point is that just because someone doesn't have whiplash it doesn't mean that they have not been affected in some way. I think a lot of people under estimate the impact an accident has on your emotional state, so these whiplash claims aren't necessarily all for whiplash but also for phycological damage.

How many people here reckon they pay a bit more insurance because the insurance company had to pay out £3million in claims for whiplash last year, and of that £3million only 33% where thought to be legitimate claims...

Not too sure how much of insurance prices can actually be blamed on whiplash claims, would expect that £3m to not be a large part of total payouts. Confused

I didn't claim for whiplash after a car crash but did claim for other injuries and expenses/losses.

The £3million thing was an example, I got no idea how much they pay out

Don’t get me wrong I'm not having a stab at those who claim for an injury when they are injured, I'm having a go at the people who claim but did not get injured. If you was hurt in an accident yes you are totally entitled to something for it.

My point is if people (who where not injured) use claims as a way of getting free money. Someone has got to pay the price, and that is going to be the rest of us. Insurance companies are a con, I hate them, they are cheeky bastards who will try to get out of a claim what ever. But its the fact that if people go about taking when they don’t need to the rest of us are going to be left paying the bill.

By making fake claims we (the people who make fake claims) are giving the insurance company another reason to charge us more.

Is there no one who thinks that making a claim from something they have not suffered from is immoral?

what about insurance companies that encourage false claims?

i had an off 11 months ago. a result of a car going into the back of me on a roundabout. only injury to me was a grazed ankle and left arse cheek which i didnt claim for.

i got a call about 4 weeks ago from my insurer asking if there was anything i "remembered" that caused pain/discomfort etc and that i can still claim if this was the case and that if i did remember anything that i should just give them a call.

One short-sighted chav wrote my car off back in 1999. Ran into my rear end at about 35mph while I was waiting to turn right at a junction.

I had whiplash, the padded collar etc, the full works. Really bad timing too, cos I was going on an all-inclusive holiday 2 days later and couldn't take advantage of the free bar, or the free sports etc Evil or Very Mad

Got my car loan and half the cost of the holiday paid off, plus £3500 on top for it though Thumbs Up

Until a couple of years ago my only dealings with insurance companies was to fork out the required premium on a yearly basis like a good little customer.
In 2003 I got sideswiped by a bus. No real damage, just a smashed wing mirror. I rang my insurance company to inform them (as it said I should in my booklet) and they said that as it was under £50 they would not chase it up, but as I informed them then they would put it on my file as a possible claim pending, therefore raising my premium come renewal time. It took me 3 months to extract the money from the bus company, then I had to get them to write a letter saying that the case was closed. All the stuff that I thought I paid my insurance for really.
In 2004 some inbred employee at b&q smashed my bumper with a trolley. The duty manager told me to get quotes and they would put it right. No need for the insurance to get involved she said.
When I tried to get quotes I found that the garages all wanted paying. I went back to b&q, but this time they wern't so helpful. They didn't answer my mail, there was never anyone available to take my call. The duty manager I had spoken to had left, etc.
In desperation I turned to the insurance company. It took them 15 months to deal with it. They made no effort to keep me updated. I had to keep chasing them up. I had to pay out £150 to the repairers. (the excess). They added another £150 on at renewal time as I had an ongoing claim. I did eventually get the £300 back but it took a lot of phonecalls and threats. Now i have a none fault claim showing on my bike and car policies. what the hells that all about??? They say it makes no difference to the price, so why put it on???
Insurance companies. scum of the earth.

Yes i would. I have 2 claims pending which were actually whiplash but i'd do it if i didnt.

Turn down money, ok.. The last thing i'm going to think about is other peoples premiums. Take them for every penny.
