I'm really into indie/rock music which uses pianos, I just can't seem to find any more bands which utilise it. The piano is my favourite instrument, so I want a bit more of it in my music collection. I've got all the usuals like Muse, Oasis, Keane, Something Corporate, Embrace, Coldplay, Athlete etc. Understand my musical taste isn't limited purely to bands which use piano, I just want a bit more of it because I think it makes great music. When Keane's first album came out I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the piano playing, and seeing them live at Glastonbury as well as Muse was phenomenal.

So I'm looking for exemplary bands similar in style to one of the above bands, who especially utilise piano in some or all of there songs. Any ideas? Mr. Green

if you like pianos you gotta check out Sufjan Stevens - weird but extremely beautiful, listen to his album 'Come on Feel the Illinoise' and you will be blown away - esp the first track!

Also a few others that spring to mind are Ben Folds, Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst, Arcade Fire, Guillemots (they were just up for the mercury prize) and Anthony and the Johnsons (Last years winners).

Of course Radiohead have had a few amazing piano led songs too (Karma Police, Pyramid Song) but they do the whole synth thing really well too if you like that!

Hope this helps somewhat! But if you only 'buy' Laughing one of the albums, make it the Sufjan Stevens one - you wont regret it!

Cheers, Stu

That's brilliant Stu, thanks for the help. I'm downloading the Sufjan Stevens album off iTunes as I type, I'll have to check out the others as well when I'm back from work. I've been sampling Guillemots as well; they sound damn good, familiarities to Editors and Doves.

Try BC Camplight.

Skip the first song on his Myspace page and the other 3 are really good (imo).

If you can handle a bit of "proper" rock rather than the more modern stuff check out some of UFO's back catalogue, they used to chuck a bit of the old piano in there quite often.

Also the one and only Ian Hunter. Thumbs Up

Nah, Break Myself is the best song they've done, got a quality piano riff and a bangin' chorus. Very Happy

I do like Something Coporate, but I don't like the NOFX stylee punk rock stuff. Even their name goes that way. Sick
