Hi,

Just to let you know what the title means, I've recently been listening to a lot of Satyricon and the drummer, Frost, is amazingly good. Just listen to the song Angstridden it has possibly the fastest double kick I've ever heard. I just want to know if anyone has heard drumming that is even close to being as good as he is?

Cheers,

Will

Never heard any of them but check out the 'Rising' album by Rainbow. 1960's heavy metal. Especially on "A light in the Black" on side B

Cozy Powell was one hell of a drummer, possibly the best rock/metal drummer of all time. https://www.cozypowell.com/

Played for Rainbow, back sabbath, whitesnake among others. Held the record for the worlds fastest drummer for a while during the 70's.

Karl Palmer from Emmerson Lake and Palmer can thrash them out too but in a bizarre prog rock style. Powell also played for ELP for a bit.

Hi,

No offence mate, but comparing Travis Barker to Satyricon's Frost is quite frankly laughable. Anyway, Travis Barker is very overrated. I know they both play completely different styles but you see where I'm coming from.

Cheers,

Will

Hi,

Flip - I'm not being pedantic but Satyricon are a Black Metal band. Hence the slower parts to their songs. Nile are a good example of standard death metal drumming.

Cheers,

Will

Hi,

Fear Factory's drummer is good but nothing special. But I have to agree with you about Dave Lombardo. His drum fills in Seasons In The Abyss are awsome.

Cheers,

Will

Clive Burr.

Fluent, and sharp. There is something stronger and tougher than Nicko McBrain.

Invaders by Iron Maiden is an excellent example of this.

Shame he's got MS really. Sad

I think Joey Jordison, drummer in Slipknot is the best I've heard.
Fast, accurate with great timing and unusual combinations.

I'm afraid Joey is another drummer who's overrated. He's nowhere near as good as some people make him out to be. Taking nothing away from him, he's not bad, just not up there with the best of them.

Lars Ulrich in St Anger!? That's the worst Metallica album to date. Possibly the most overrated drummer in metal. Dragonforce, although not my favourite band, do have good drumming in the one song I've heard by them. Gene Holgan is an excellent drummer. And still, after all the suggestions, I'm still yet to hear a drummer who plays better than Frost. Just been listening to Derek Roody, not bad and likes his blast beats. Mind you; listen to Rite Of Our Cross by Satyricon the blast beats in that song are insane.

Cheers,

Will

Flo Mounier from Cryptopsy is pretty good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ayqcCrSXfo

Chris Adler from Lamb of God, I love the originality of his stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AeWTKUXm3tU

Vinnie Paul from Pantera... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57eihB5pW-s

Loads of other people, but I can't find any of them playing solo's.

Most metal drummers are spot on though Thumbs Up Especially Frost.

Of course, you can't have a discussion about drummers without mentioning Rick Allen of Def Leppard.

Count the arms.

Derek Roddy for Hate Eternal is amazing. Also Tony Laureano from Nile. Best drummers I can think of for over all speed and technical stuff.

Will,

Mike portnoy ringing any bells for you?

Yes Frost is a shit hot drummer but he can go fast in a straight line it ain't that impressive.

Portnoy does some awesome looks with his double bass and his fills are completley stunning.

Best drummer in my book.

Chris

Get a track called 'officer down'. Wicked drumming. The drummer once broke his leg so he learned to play his double bass drum parts with one leg because he didn't want to cancel a show. Shocked

If you check out The Berzerker that Zaknafien posted, he does that but with both his feet at the same time.
