Just curious...

I've been trying to learn on and off for about 2 years and must say its the hardest thing i've ever attempted to learn. Its not going to beat me though!

The guitar is fairly easy to pick up and play, but hard to master.

Like most things, there is always something new to learn. I've been playing for 7 or 8 years and i'm still learning.

What? Easy to pick up and play? Shocked

It took me ages to get my fingers round the basic major and minor chords and i still have trouble changing betweem one or two of them.

After two years i still can't really play anything Laughing

I thought at one point the more guitars i had the quicker i'd learn Embarassed i have five now and it hasn't helped Neutral

I've been trying to re-learn after getting nerve damage in my hands (can't feel stuff very well)...

Advantages :-
Can't feel - so no pain from the steel strings

Disadvantages :-
Can't feel - so all my tunes sound crummy as I miss strings a lot Laughing

May be time to start playing something else...

A.

Guitar baffles me... there are too many strings, the frets confuse me and the notes are too far apart.

I'd rather fiddle with me fiddle.

I have a guitar in its case tucked away in the corner of the room that hasn't seen the light of day in quite a while. Embarassed

I first started playing years and years ago and got quite good for a while, but then I lapsed and stopped playing for ages. Now, I find that when I pick up the guitar I can play most "easy" chords and string them together quite well, but the more difficult (i.e. stretchy) ones tend to elude me.

It's all practice, practice, pratice.... Smile

My brother got a guitar in Jan, been learning since then and hes getting quite good at it.

I however, cannot get to grips with it what so ever! I would love to be able to play something even remotely interesting on it, but the best i can do is smoke on the water Laughing

It realy is quite difficult i find, my fat fingers dont help much neither Wink

Yeah I've been learning for about a year as well.

Well I say learning but I'm just sort of figuring stuff out for myself.

Can play loads of cords but have no idea what they're called....

Prefer downloading tab and just learning a few songs at a time...

Can you play anything that sounds anything like it should do?

For instance if someone walked past whist you were playing some Metallica and they knew the song would they stop and say "hey thats Sad But True by Metallica isn't it?" and you'd say "Yeah" with a nice satisfied smug expression on your face?

I have a poxy accoustic £50 quid job. Would quite like a prper guitar, got a really nice peavy amp though...

Um yeah I can play Nothing Else Matters and I would be confident enough to busk down in the tube with it.

Also play a bit of Beatles, can strum my way through Blackbird, and Here Comes the Sun.

Problem is if I say I were to "jam" with somone I would be pants, as I don't knwo the name of any cords....I just....play I guess.....

jaming is a great way to learn
my son has played with the band I worked with when he was only 14
he learned a lot from jaming with them during setup etc
and occasionally we get to jam together with me normally playing chords on the accoustic
and him playing lead

heres a link to him trying Comfortably Numb for the first with the Floyd tribute band I work with
he had no idea that he was going to be playing untill we handed him the guitar

Thats impressive in my opinion, i'd love to be able to sit and strum through a song.

I know the names of all the chords and techniques, just can't put it inot practise yet.

Also the last thing my mum bought me before she died earlier this year was a Gibson Les Paul which i haven't been able to bring myself to pick up and play yet and i'm not going to until i can play something worth playing on it

That's deep buddy.....

wow....made me feel a bit funny then....you know when you get a blob in your throat....and a funny shiver...

Be nice though, if the first thing you play on it is a complete song, one that you really like.....

I can play all the major and minor chords and bar chords
but its the 7ths and things that get me
some things I can play better than others but I like playing thing's like hotel california or wish you were here on accoustic
if I'm playing electric I'm more likely to play rock or metal song's
and I can manage Stairway to heaven intro as long as I havn't drunk to much beer

I bought me a cheapo Yamaha a few months back and can just about play the intro to "Nothing Else Matters"... Laughing

Still haven't got my head around chords yet though. Not had much opportunity to practice.

**EDIT**

Make that the beginning of the intro to "Nothing Else Matters"... Embarassed
