oh yer lol
I know Pluto was no a true planet, but i a few days ago on the news they were saying that they were going to vote to keep Pluto a named planet. either by reclassifying planets (and like i say bringing the number of planets to about 11 or 12)
or else simple keep it as a planet as an exception to the rule.
Pluto is unlike almost all other know asteroids in that it is round (meaning it has a large gravity force)
has moons, and it also has an atmosphere.
It is also the case that even a planet the size of the earth would probable fail to be recognized as a planet if it was orbiting out as far as Pluto does.
To be a planet it seems now you have to clear your orbit of other significant bodies. And even earth would struggle to do that in such a vast orbit. ____________________ When i think of someting good to put here. it will go here

It'll all come about again next year. The definition will be changed again.
The final vote has come under criticism because of the relatively small percentage of the 9000-strong membership who participated. Besides the fact that most members do not attend the General Assemblies, this lack was also due to the timing of the vote: the final vote was taken on the last day of the 10-day event, after many participants had left or were preparing to leave. Of over 2,700 astronomers attending the conference, probably over a thousand voted on the significant resolutions; on a vote on a subsidiary resolution, the first that required a count, only 424 votes were cast. There is also the issue of the many astronomers who were unable or who chose not to make the trip to Prague and, thus, cast a vote.
Within five days of the new IAU Planet Definition over 300 scientists signed a petition that opposes the new definition. Specifically it declares: “We, as planetary scientists and astronomers, do not agree with the IAU's definition of a planet, nor will we use it. A better definition is needed.” ____________________ Current bike: Kawasaki Z750S |
