There is usually a drain hole with a bung in it at the lowest point and a tray that slides out from under it.

Switch off the fridge, take the bung out and leave it with the door open for a bit. Any ice on the inside will melt

Keep an eye on the tray, it wont necessarily hold all the melted ice so you need to keep sliding it out and emptying it into a bucket when it's full.

If there are any big lumps of ice (like in the freezer box), they should loosen off after a while, lift these out and throw them down the drain/in the sink.

When it's all defrosted, give it all a good wipe out with a surface cleaner (or my Granny used to use Jif lemon juice on a cloth)and leave it with the door propped open (if you leave it closed, it will stink).

When you get your new fridge in and where you want it, leave it to stand and settle overnight before switching it on. It is full of fluid and moving it about can cause air pockets which could damage the pump, these disperse when you leave it to sit.

Empty it of food.

Switch it off at the mains.

If it's got a little drip spout at the bottom (most do), pull it out and direct it into a bowl or something to catch the water.

Otherwise, keep on top of the meltage with towels or whatever.

Leave the door open and it'll melt by itself. Or have fun chiselling great big lumps of ice off if it's really bad.

You can put dishes of boiling water on the shelves to speed the process up with steam if you want.
