A bit cheesed off and in a ranty mood today
Basically, the job I have is working for local council, in a corporate department
I am deemed 'bank staff', which means that I always have work, but no fixed abode.
I move around the council, do whatever I can to help all
But I have become sick of it, as I would like a desk of my own, and a permanent office to become attached to.
Now, where I am (have been for the last 3 months) is really 'good' (if that can be used when describing an office environment)
I like a lot of the staff, the jobs were interesting, and I have learned loads about excel, uniform program, dealing with the finances etc...
They said they were training me up as I was going to be (hopefully ) taking over from a member of admin staff (only 2 admins for a big dept) when she left (has left a couple of weeks ago) I liked this idea, permanent job, holiday pay...
So I was putting the effort in, working from home, making an effort to bond with everyone in the team, went on the team building day... all that gubbins
Since the 2nd member of the admin team left, I have stepped in. Done all she did and more.
I can fill her job now. Tomorrow. Well..I have been doing it for months
My Manager didn't promise me the job, but said he would only advertise internally etc.. and I had to apply like everyone else, but hint hint..you know
Anyway..the point of the rant, today I went into his office and we had this 'chat'. he said (in more fancy language and long words of course.. ) that he needs me to work after 4 if I get the vacancy (he knows I cannot do this due to commitments), and maybe start earlier. Knowing full well I can't. And more was said, so basically I have been working my ass off for nothing
So that is that as they say
I feel as if I have been duped into staying there and working hard for them longer than I should have
I wouldn't have taken so much work on if I thought they would just toss me aside like this
nd what has RILED me even more today, is that they dump the news on me that the other admin member is on holiday until week after next !!
Which leaves me, sad ol crappy no good for a permanent job me, left to run the admin for everyone alone
I have a good mind to phone in sick
Bastar*s
Long, I know
Sorry
Feel a bit un-appreciated today ____________________ Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow" |

Correct, the normal working hours are betweek 8 to 6pm, if you are not going to work a full day it is bad as an employer and I know I would be pretty annoyed.
You want the job get a nanny for the kids, this is how other people work.
Otherwise you will have to stick with what you got, if you want things yourway in life that is how it works unfortunately. ____________________ Call me Mr. Blobby |

Thanks for the support lads
The thing that fugs me off is the ex admin member of staff did 5 hours less than me a week and sat on her ass
Did nothing
And they want me to work MORE
And no, I won't work past 3pm.. bad me, but the boss knew that before and he still 'led me on'
He admitted today that I 'didnt really need to. It is their fault, (meaning planning officers etc...) His words "they always leave things last minute. They go out and about all day..come back in about 4... rush to finish stuff off and expect it doing then and there"
Yeah, fair nuff
What makes me LAUGH is that this council are having a big drive in October to promote flexible working for parents ! 'Work from home' .. 'We can accomodate you'. Yeah. As long as you leave your kids with someone and work more hours than we initially said
If I were to pay a childminder after school, it would be 'dead money' ie I get it and pay it out again
No job is worth that
It is only a shi**y lil job. Plenty more about. Not the end of the world
Just wanted a rant and a rave
It's a shame a lot of people are so narrow minded eh ? ____________________ Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow" |

I am sorry to be hard on you.
But I can see what type of person you are "there are plenty more jobs around"
You are wrong, those jobs that are around are usually low paid jobs, you seem to have no wish to more forward in life, you want a career, then make it happen dont moan and then go on to INSULT people. ____________________ Call me Mr. Blobby |

I probably come across as harsh here, but I really have no sympathy for this sort of thing. It happens in my (civil service) office all time, the wants of parents coming before the needs of the office.
You choose to have kids, you deal with the consequences. |
I'm going to be harsh too , when somebody decides to go down to a 4 day week somebody has to pick up the slack , I'm currently picking up the slack for 3 other people who decided they wanted a 4 day week , I get paid nothing nada more for it , ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
