Garage (flat) roof needs doing

Approx 5.5 metres long, 4 metres wide, standalone.

Here's the spec I have in mind;
8x2 timbers on 400 centres, 3/4 inch ply and probably 3 layer felt.

Looking for a ball-park estimate/ advice or recommendations for good roofers in N East London/ Essex borders area.

Had a couple of comedians around already; one of them quoted me £5.5k for the job - that was for single membrane rubber instead of felt Shocked

Cheers Thumbs Up

Why not do it yourself?

Unless your completely inept at working with your hands it should be easy.

rubber is better than felt, but more expensive to buy, remember cost of the job depends more on time than anything else, labour is the biggest overhead and things like access and ease of work affect the cost more than anything else.

what is the access and working space like, and where are you?

DIY is an increasingly attractive option especially given the apparent cowboy nature of some of the "professionals" I've had round so far. One fella quoted my a grand and then called back the next day to say he'd miscalculated and it would cost two grand!! I can't deal with someone like that. It's not a particularly complex job; putting up timbers and decking wouldn't be difficult; joists will go on hangers. Putting on torch-on felt is beyond my DIY skills though.

I'll go for the epdm rubber membrane option if I'm to do it myself; doesn't seem overly expensive judging by some of the websites I've had a look at;
https://www.aquaroof.fsbusiness.co.uk/
https://www.diyroofing.com/

Access is not an issue; it's a standalone garage (prefab concrete panels) with access from all sides. Won't need any scaffolding either. Need to strip off the existing roof first; again that's not difficult. With a second pair of hands it shouldn't make much more than a day. Got someone else coming around to have a look at it tomorrow so I'll see what he comes up with; if no joy by end of the month it'll be DIY I think. It definately needs doing before winter so I don't have too much time to play around with.

Gavin; I'm in Loughton.
