What a great idea.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/5341202.stm

I've had to live with this in the past with my wife, who didn't think anything of being 5'7" and weighing 7 stone. Thank fully she's about 9 stone now.

I think it's fantastic, although there may be those models who despite having a low BMI may still be healthy...

It might help to see a shift in culture away from the normal model being underweight and unhealthy - let's hope so Thumbs Up

When my wife had our first, she had to go on a diet to increase her weight. Plus she didn't eat any dairy products.

My OH was bordering on being skinny rather than slim when we first met. She still finds it hard to understand that I find her even more attractive with some meat on her bones.... something to get a hold of Rolling Eyes Embarassed

Skinny = disgusting, why do so many women not understand this? Every bloke I talk to who looks at a skinny woman the first thing they say is 'she needs to get to mcdonalds sharpish' or something along those lines, I'm yet to meet a guy who finds it attractive.

Good news that. Stick thin is not attractive and i hate seeing bones and wasted muscle. Least now some teens wont look like that if they change the image to healthy women.

Be nice if some of the doctors in this country would get on board too and use a bit more sense than "according to this chart":-

My younger sister (26) is about 5"8 and weighs under 12 stone - admittedly she is chubby but carries it well and does have a thyroid problem (was living on one bowl of cereal and 1 salad a day at the time trying to lose weight). But according to the "doctors" chart she is "obese" - I was appalled, "overwight" I could live with but telling someone that they are obese when the clearly aren't is disgusting.

A few weeks ago my friend was having an all over check - approx. 5"7, just under 11 stone and a large size 12. Same thing - doctor says according to chart you are obese and I suggest you start doing something about it. I'd be surprised if at that she can pinch much more than an inch.

I find it easy to ignore skinny models (although I don't like the promotion of it through the publicity given to them) but when a doctor tells you that you're obese under those kind of circumstances I think it won't be long before we're seeing, what were healthy looking girls, going on stupid diets and making themselves ill.

I am disgusted with what they've been told and I'd like to see some doctor try to tell me I'm obese and not have their "chart" threatened with the bin!!!

Doctors go by the Body Mass Index, or BMI. If your sister's weight is 12 stone, and she is 5'8", then her BMI is 25.5, which is in the "Normal" range for women (19.1 - 25.8). Your friend has a BMI of 24.1, which again is normal. Women need to be > 32.3 before they are classed as "Obese".

The doctor needs a new chart.

I was 39.6, or 0.6 away from "Morbidly Obese". Now at 30.2, I'm just "Overweight" Dance!

I'm weighting for all the 'unhealthy' models to have heart attacks as they try and rapidly put weight on, eating pure lard.

The word healthy is very misleading whe it comes to weight and BMI:

I know plenty of skinny, healthy women. I also know some skinny, unhealthy women (a muffin and a packet of crisps is not lunch).

Likewise I know plenty of larger women who are healthy. Again, there are some who could do with a better lifestyle (one where moaning about weight doesn't constitute 'doing something about it')

More importantly, I see plenty of unhealthy 'fit' people down the gym. Muscles on muscles but couldn't run to catch a bus if they tried.

Essentially the BMI is the best indicator of weight (in relation to height) and the ranges are fairly large. However, it is based on statistical 'norms', not 'being healthy' as such.

Dragonfly that's terrible (for that to be said I mean) - I'm also 5ft4 but approx 10 stone; other than some crap on the internet (BMI calculator) no-one said that I am overweight...... there again perhaps the nurse looks at me and thinks "daren't!". See it may be okay for all this BMI stuff, etc. but at the end of the day people are different builds - I am a size 12 but pretty well built up top and broad shouldered (muscle weighs more than fat) so as hard as I tried I would probably never reach my ideal BMI or if I did I would look ill and mis-proportioned.

Anyway, glad to hear you're not letting some chart's opinion get to you and you're happy with yourself - good lass Thumbs Up
