Would being de-restricted use more fuel than being restricted to 33BHP?

derestricting would possibly use less fuel, say your getting up to 70, with a restricted bike, youd have to cain it, were as you could get up to that speed in second with full ypower, knock it into 6th and pootle along at 6k if that..

i could be wrong, as the restrictor makes your inlet alot smaller, so probably using less.

id rather have full power and coast on tick over in 6th Razz

Steve.

depends.

If the bike was set up for the restrictors i.e. the mixture was leaned off then yes it would use more when you derestrict it and set the carbs back up to run without the restrictors.

If it wasn't set up for the restrictors then no, because the restrictors only restrict the amount of air, not the amount of fuel, so bikes that aren't set up for their restrictors tend to run rich.

Cheers, I'm thinking that might be why my bike has been going through fuel like nobodies business.

My bike is a lot less fuel efficient now than when it was restricted cause I now use the bike above 6K RPM much more often than before.

Restrictor kits limit the amount of air the engine can draw into your engine (The NC23 I bought had restrictor plates with 14mm holes in them). The fuel delivery is controlled by the air drawn in, so if you are drawing less air then you are using less fuel too.

Basically you can put it like this:

Disregarding any effect on efficiency the restrictor kits have. All of the energy your engine converts comes from the fuel you consume. If you are making 33HP, you are consuming 33HP worth of fuel. If engine makes 90HP without the restrictors fitted, you'll use 3 times the fuel at full power.

Rolling Eyes

They limt the Air/Fuel vapour which is why the are between the carbs and the cyclinder head, if you restrict the air intake the bike will run rich and run like a pig.

The reason they are between the carbs and head is to stop interference by the owner and turbulance in the intake venturi.

Remember all FI restrictors do is make the engine believe the carbs aren't opening all the way.

They limit air intake volume. The carb jets meter the amount of fuel pulled into any given passing air volume. Lower pressure = more fuel. Air pressure cannot drop as low with restrictors in as without.

So yes restrictors limit air intake as well as air/fuel mixture intake. Both you and Geri are correct on this point.

Geri did make one mistake though.
