The pope does have a point though, but I thank him for stating the fucking obvious.

Oh dear, shit happens...

"Muslims have the right to be angry and hurt by these comments from the highest cleric in Christianity," Mr Qardawi reportedly said.

I await the news of a bomb going off in the pope's toilet now, that should sort it all out.

If those cartoons pissed the towel heads off, this is world war 3.

Lock and load popey!

Meaning? I'm not religious in anyway. Just a bit pissed off with certain Muslim communities. Smile

Is there anything to which 'the brotherhood of islam' doesn't take offence?
I'm sick of having to kowtow to these people. I think the pope's statement (out of context, at least - I don't agree with his motives) is perfectly justified.

Do you see any Christian/Jewish/Hindu/Sikh suicide bombers killing innocent people on behalf of their religion?

'Cause I don't.

That's not to say that all muslims are abhorrent - I know several 'liberal' muslims, in fact, who are great friends of mine - but in my personal opinion there is something seriously wrong with a religion that, in the 21st century, still enforces a shroud upon their women and manages to breed such xenophobia. As said above, let's get this in context.
Let's stop these knees jerking too quickly.

Apparently the remarks were made during a debate.
This article appears to cover it
Herald Sun wrote:
..."Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," Benedict quoted the emperor as saying.

"The emperor goes on to explain in detail the reasons why spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable," the Pope said.

"Violence is incompatible with the nature of God and the nature of the soul," he added. ...

So IMO the pope was argueing that Islam shouldn't be spreading the faith through violence. That's something some Muslim's have said themselves, although others argue their 'Koran' (Qur'an, Quran, Al-Quran, etc.) gives them carte blanche to do so.

I suppose the alternative is that we all in Europe get together and go on a journey, let's for the moment call it a Crusade. We all could go down to spend some time by the Mediterranean in, let's say Israel, and kick the Muslims out of all the holy places. If they get nasty we could always nail their hands and feet to pieces of wood stood up in the ground. Maybe we should agree on a nice chant, how about 'God Willing'. Nah!, too long, not catchy enough, let's shorten it to 'Inshallah'.*

Thumbs Up

* of course the above is in jest, although irony and parody may be strangers to some people

Sadly, it appears so.

But, as map stated, knees will jerk.

Silly Anna, they are as smart as you or I - they intentionally mis-quote and mis-understand things to bolster their own agenda!

It also annoys me that the BBC and the media in general give so much credence and airtime to people who are effectively non-entities. Western leaders cannot do or say anything without someone being trotted out from the Muslim Islamic Parliment of the Brotherhood of the Group of the Council of Bearded Gentlemen.

It's the equivalent of getting a statement from the leader of the local JW's kingdom hall.

The pope cannot use quotes, rather than his own words, then not expect people to associate him with those views. He should know that there are plenty of muslims out there who are going to extract all they can then take it all of out of context. He has given the muslims more material to have a hissy fit over, stupid old git!

It is quite comical though to see muslims getting woundup, perhaps the pope was just trolling? Laughing
