I truly dread to think! By the time you've worked out insurance, fuel, tyres, servicing, oil and filters etc it's a lot. Far more to run than my car at any rate Mad

Dont include insurance and petrol, base on the cost of your bike and what you get out of it, which means, servicing/tyres/fixing/initial cost/selling price.
Of course this will mean some people might have made profit Thumbs Up

lemme think

Bike cost £700 , had a full touring fairing 2 sets of wheels and 2 sets of lugagge one which was a GIVI set one which was a custom made jobbie which was about 70CM each side (making the bike wider than
some cars)

Sold the luggage + the old fairing for £100.

Running total £600.

Service = oil change = £15 for oil £3 for filter
tyres = £125 for every 8000 miles.
misc bits when I break it = £100
£30 for MOT + £50 in bits and bobs to make it pass (pads , bulbs etc)
£62 tax

So in essence £385 excluding insurance (£140) and petrol (£700)
cheap as chips they say hacks gotta love 'em probably what prevents me from buying that NC30/NC35 I think about the running costs are much higher.

EDIT I'm not a complete cheapskate , just that I don't want to be kickstart and start hoarding bikes , my current situation and state of mind is I can lose my job / walk out any time I want , and mvoe to another city just like that ,

with one bike its easy can take all my luggage (you decide to throw away lots of junk) get there and park easily anywhere and rent easy due to this.

with two (which i currently have 2 bikes in my name on V5Cs) I had to abandon one at the other end of the country its packed up for LT storage but never have time to go get it.

I'm informed the bearings cost 50 notes, then the labour and re-test.

If i have a moan they'll nock some off.

I can't be arsed to spend saturday in my garage stripping the front end down when it can be done and dusted in a couple of hours.

Once you've got the gear, the bike is cheaper than the car.

But lets not forget the £200 helmet, £200 jacket, £150 leather pants, the £60 gloves, the £15 back protector (it saved me!!), the £150 boots. Then times it by 2 for winter gear, what am I on about times it by 3, I have summer gear as well!!!.

-----

If i'm just commuting i'll only do £5 a week in Petrol, insurance is £200 a year.

Probably 2 tyres a year at £200.

2 services all in £180.

Oil probably £40, oil filters £15.

Not much really, even if I go for a long ride its not too bad, I can get over 70mpg on the ER, if I keep it under 80.

the thing with hear race bearings is that even though they are pretty easy to change (a crap mechanic like me can do them and I empitomise crap) , is that you have to take off lots of other stuff to get to the bugger things , the entire front end takes me about an hour to get off (inc lots of beer swearing and rehammeriting rusted bits).

just taking off the forks to get them resealed took ages. but as said shop around , me looking for about 5 minutes for tyres got me a £75 saving on the main dealers , I had a look and the tyres are H rated too ,
