I am SO fucked off with the Pope.

Whilst arguing various unreligious topics in Siggi's god-slot this evening, I'd still like to take time out to take a pot shot at the fact that the Pope has felt it necessary to apologise to Muslims.

Fuck that.
He's the Pope.
And he's supposed to be in-fucking-fallible.

He doesn't have to apologise to no cunt.
Cos he IS the Pope.
Silly old fucker: he's allowed to criticise people and take NO NOTICE WHATSOEVER of twattishness like this Evil or Very Mad

FFS, I can't believe this Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

This is not a rant against muslims or Islam, its just a rant that PC-stupidity has brought the world to this.

I'm behind you on this one. I'm not catholic - although I was baptised one - but I've always been a bit of a fan of the Pope as an idea - they remind me of the queen, an acceptable and reasonable face of an archaic institution.

It disgusts me that we must constantly tread lightly around Muslims, while ridiculing our own institutions quite happily.

Islam allows no dissent, no questioning, no reason, no logic - nothing but obedience and deference that is certainly not due to it.

It is equally upsetting that the media always jumps on the bandwagon, giving huge coverage to the good ol' Arab rent-a-mobs who always manage to sport well-written English signs. It grieves me to see my license fee being spent to bolster world wide Islamic nutterism.

i think his remarks were taken out of context

very few people have listened to or read the whole speech

there was a radio phoneiin thing on radio4 and even the presenter admitted he hadnt read or heard the actual speech, but a guy who had rang in.

Basically the pope quoted someone who had suffered at the hands of muslims, and then said this was a bad view point and he didnt agree with it. The press dont mention this. The pope was doing a lecture to academics and his theme was faith without reason can lead to misunderstandings and violence, and that all religious people should try to be more moderate than radical, or extreme.

However he was a bit daft to use a quote with views which he himself described as horrifying, without it occurring to him that some people might think he was quoting because he agreed with it.

He comes from the world of academic style philosopher/theologians and so isnt very aware when it comes to media spin, PR etc On how things can be taken the wrong way.

Basically, if you say anything complicated on a contentious issue, someone will manage to simplify it so they can try to understand what you said. They will then get the wrong end of the stick and say that you said something that you didnt.

This is why politicans do sound bites, with everyone using the same sound bite so there dont appear to be any differences between viewpoints, and things cant get taken the wrong way.

I think he has appologised for any offence caused, rather than appologised for what he said, as he does not believe what he said was insulting, only the way it has been reported made it sound insulting.

The Pope is the leader of a massive institution that educates millions if not billions of people around the world that it is a sin to use a condom. Thousands and thousands of people are now HIV positive as a direct result of the misteachings by a religion of which this man is the figurehead.

There's not much he could do to sink a lot lower in my opinion.

Only buy services and products from White British people.

We are at war. If we look after ourselves, as we are still the majority, we can economically strangle them. Stop giving these fuckers your money and it will go towards a happy outcome of this horrible mess our poor Island is in.

What percentage of those thousands of people are from countries where there is little sex education and even less regard for sexual mores. A lot of Catholic missionarying was occurring in Africa and South East Asia, which are rife with people who have an entirely different take on sexual morality as part of their culture. I don't agree that you can blame that entirely down to the Pope/s of recent years.

I'm not especially bothered about the morals of Popes in general. They've never been a particularly intelligent or well-behaved bunch (I once read a really interesting book called Sex Lives of the Popes: it was eye-opening).

Yes, they do have a certain amount of liability for the lives of millions of sheeplike followers. But every human has a reasoning brain, and if they don't use it, and insist on believing that every rule their religious leader lays down must be obeyed, that's their outlook. Faith is a very personal thing, you have to interpret it how it suits you, cos you only get one life.

Catholics haven't ever been the brightest bunch in the cookie barrel, anyway.

But for one religious leader to feel compelled to apologise to another entire religion is ridiculous.

You're right though: its often taken out of context by media sound-bites. Reasonable and reasoning people understand this and live and let live.

But its ALWAYS taken to the edge of unreasonable behaviour by religious zealots such as the muslim Hauptsturmführers, as we have seen this weekend.

It's interesting that 2 of the islamic parties I have seen most quoted by the news have been a banned political organisation in Egypt and a member of the nutcase Islamists that have taken over the God-forsaken hell-hol Somali!

Why the hell do we care what they think? Do they really represent Islam, and if so, why aren't we going nuclear?

I try explaining this in many topics, it usually comes out very offensive, but in the end everyone will understand.

I'm not being difficult but can you explain further?

As a connection to the Random Banter topic about God, our government and the US should bring out the big guns and finally nail the lid on religion, show Islam what it is worth and make them crumble, it’s all they’ve got……..well that, and our country. Rolling Eyes
