For the past week ive been watching a bike on ebay. The day finally came that the auction would end and i managed to win the bidding. the bike is a 2001 fazer 600 in black and will hopefully be used as a commuter between essex and central london daily. It has slight damage such as cracked and scuffed front plastics, dodgy rear brake thats leaking , bent bars etc. nothing too bad that i wont be able to few for just a few quid.
It comes with a carbon art can which i will probably sell, standar can, spare discs and sprckets. its got just under 7k on it.

Well done, pity about the wee bit of damage cos it mars what is a good looking bike.

However it does not sound as though it will be sitting about much.

Happy biking.

Got the bike home and im very happy. I went along expecting bike to be a heap but i was wrong. It came with a box full of spare parts too! its got a meta alarm and certificate, disc lock, brand new standard pipe, cover, spare plate etc etc. I was going to sell the art can to get a bit of money back but it just sounds far too good!
I spent a full day tidying it up yesterday. It had been down on its left hand side causing the following damage:

bent bars
cracked and scuffed front plastics
bent out of line headlight/fairing bracket
scuffed generator cover
cracked hugger
broken indicators
extenda fender ripped off
downpipes rusty

to sort the bent bars i left them in place and put a large steel pipe over the bent on and levered it back into shape.

the plastics were grp'ed, filled, smoothed and painted.

bracked was bent in 3 directions but a pole through the bracked to straighten out worked fine and it went back easy enough

gen cover was repainted with hammerite

hugger was again grp'ed and painted

indicators came in the box of spares so they were fitted and wired in.

extenda-fender glued back on

and the downpiped were ground back to the steel and repainted with high temp paint. look new again.

I replaced the tank pad as it was looking a bit old.

In all i spent another £38 on it. Very Happy

MOT passed. Front brake binding but no advisory. Art can was good enough to pass too.

Congratulations, did the Dream pass?

One thing the Fazer needs maybe is some stainless downpipes to give it that little cherry on top effect.

oldish thread unearthed here syris but i'll give a quick update....

Bikes still running fine, now on 12k. Ive since added bar muffs (god send!) and a rear rack and topbox which come in very useful. I gave the bike a full service with new oil, o.filter, plugs, cleaned air filter (which was a k&N) and wheel bearings. New chain and sprockets are on their way as the rear sprocket is looking a bit worn.
Only problems encountered so far are:
1) the hugger didnt take to kindly to the fibreglass and promptly broke. a selection of cable ties are holding it on at the min!
2) the clutch is on its way out i think. Either that or just needs adjustment.
Cheap motoring so far (touch wood). Train normally costs me £260 a month to get to work and the bikes using around £85 a month in petrol so it shouldnt be long until its paid for itself. Thumbs Up

Cool, I had 12k miles on mine when I let it go, the clutch had started to slip like mad on it too. They really do cost pennies to run compared to a full on sports 600.

Where you repairing the hugger? Had the brackets cracked? I had a really cheap ass one on mine, didn't last long because certain tyre profiles touched it... Laughing

yeah i had to attempt a reair on the hugger as the mounting points on both sides had snapped then one day it took a liking to the rear tyre and decided to touch it and get ripped off totally. It was just a black fibreglass thing, not good quality at all. Still.... it'll last till the summer with the arrangement of cable ties currently on it.
