I had my dads old one 1999 until i blew the engine.
Went pretty well, downgeared it -2 front. Was pretty bullet proof although my dad had it from new so was always serviced never thrashed etc.
Seem to depreciate loads though, can get them for next to nothing. Pretty comfy but the handling/suspension is very soft/saggy. |

Yep gear box
Between 2nd and 3rd, its almost a give that it WILL go wrong and near abouts 40,000 miles
Exhaust suffers too (same as many others but still needs to be looked at)
Fantastic bike, very nearly had one myself.. fast enough, comfy, slightly squidgey suspension (its not a sports bike, somewhere between touring and sports) excelent distance bike and good for luggage (once you get a givi set or somehting) ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

My E10 (2002) revision is a sweet and powerful upgrade from the Divvy. It's hugely nippy (they love lots of revs so don't be afraid to whelly it) and it sticks like glue on the bends with the BT20's on it. Done 500 miles two-up with no problems bar really strong crosswinds (the bike is 195kg so does get buffeted a bit). Just waiting for the rest of my rack to turn up to mount the luggage. Take the screen off and fit an extended one. I don't get buffeted by wind resistance at 100 and don't need to duck behind the fairing either.
Watch the centre stand when you are carrying a passenger. Too far over and you'll catch it (done this twice now on roundabouts) so adjust the preload and possably shorten the spring.
It's a sportsbike with a tourer style front fairing and the Haynes describes it as a 600 that pretends it's a thou'.
They are fun to ride .

I have a 1990 ZZR600 D1. It does everything I need it to do and more besides. Common failings are the exhaust rots nicely, the front caliper pistons can seize and the rear shock is shite. Other than that is a cracking bike. You can tour all day on it, go nuts chasing sports bikes on it and still get off it and walk normally. It's amazing how people underestimate them as well. I have a mate with a 2002 model ZX6R 636 and he tried to drag race me on it once and found he couldn't beat me much to his dismay. Yes round a track sports 600 will take you apart, but in the real world its a cracking all rounder. ____________________ Staffs Riders Forum |

3rd gear can take you most of the way up to 80 and then bounce it up to number 6. My brother in law did 120 on the back wheel when he had a go. .
