Hey Peeps!!

I'm gonna be replacing my tyres soon and need some opinions.

I'm after a quality tyre that is hard wearing and good in dry and wet and am looking at Bridgestone BT020's or Avon Azaro ST's.

I've got Michelin Pilot Power's on my CBR600F at the mo but with the route to work they have squared-off too easily.

Any ideas on any tyres and even decent garages in Lincolnshire that won't growl at you if you don't buy from them? Also, any good websites? I've tried intobikes, TST and FWR.

I've had Pirelli Diablo Strada's on my ZX6R for the last wee while and I've had no problems what so ever. Metzeler Z6 is also an option, I'm not sure whether they are the same tyre though but with a different name on the side.

my metzeler M3's are really hard wearing - done quite a few miles on them and they still look brand new!!!

I paid about £175 the last time I had 020's fitted from Machins. I do have quite a bit to do with them though so get a reasonable deal.

For the sake of saving a tenner I'd prefer to buy from a dealer than mail order, just for the convenience. I also like to support local business'.

I should imagine the BT020 will be more than suitable for what your looking for.

TST are very competitive. The pilot powers are now dual compound, so should no longer have the squaring off problem

Contiroad attacks came highly reccomended when i was after a grippy, yet durable tyre, and are also dual compound.

I rate Pirelli Diablos highly for a good all round road tyre.

Cant argue with the bandit having a set of BT20's on. Good cornering, and very grippy in all but the slippiest conditions.

I have run the 020,s on my old ZX10b, i ran AVON AV 45/46ST on my Blackbird and i run Michelin Pilot HPX on the BUSA.

The 020's were good however they are very old technology now.
The AVON were extremely hard wearing and saw 7k on the XX before i replaced them, shit in the wet with 150bhp but good in the dry.

Michelin HPX have had some abuse over the last few weeks, the centre is showing no signs of wear yet i have chewed the edges of the rear and have rolls of rubber where the chicken strips live on some bikes.

I'd be going with the HPX, if they can cope with the abuse i'm dishing out then you'll have no issues on a daily commute.

I got some continental road attacks not long ago and I'm really impressed. More grippy and confidence inspiring than the bridgestones I had before but also more hard wearing. I'm really happy with my choice.

I've also heard very good things about the avon azaro ST's, so personally I might try them next (but we'll see, I'm perfectly happy with the conti's so can't help thinking it would be silly to risk going backwards tyre-wise...).

I have an Azaro ST on the Blade and it spins up with the slightst application of throttle in the wet. I have checked them as soon as I get home (front and rear) and they are stone cold. I will be getting Diablos as soon as these ones are finished. The previous owner fitted them and they just don't grip enough for me.

I've got Avon Azaro ST's on the Hornet at the moment. They're great in the dry once they've warmed up, but absoluteley useless in the wet. Had them fishtail on me twice when I've not put that much power down. As everyone else has said, they're still cold after a ride in the wet.

I'm going to get some Pirelli Diablo's next.

Went to a local garage and can get the Bridgestone's for £188 all in. I guess all I can do is try them myself, I might even like them!!

At the end of the day we all ride differently.

I popped in as I was passing to see what they could quote me. Seems about right to me when you think that websites are selling them £150+ a pair, plus I would be taking the bike in.

Order the tyres off the net, take the wheels off yourself. And take em down to the local bike shop. Will cost you a damned sight less than that!


When I had a massive graze in my rear tyre showing canvas I had to quickly get me a new rear tyre, a BT020 was the cheapest, so went with that. Still cost me £117.50 from a dealer! And, my eyes watered at that, considering its a 160/60/17 ZR.

Would gladly take the wheels in but I've not got a front stand, the rear is no problem tho. Don't they get funny with you if the tyres are from someone else? Is £188 really that bad for a ride in/ride out?

And, its fairly simple to take the front wheel off without the use of a stand, all you need is a centre stand, a mate to sit on the back of the bike. Once the spindle has been removed, gently lower the fork legs on something along the lines of a wooden board, or a bit of carpet.

Then, taking the rear wheel off will be easier, as it will be about 2 feet in the air.
