I've always been an arai shape head. For 10 years i've had Arai's but it would appear that will no longer be the case.

I've now tried on all the different shells they do including the direct replacement for my Quantumn F and none of them fit me.

Maybe as i've got older my head is becoming a Shoei shape. Which is a shame as i really wanted a Haga replica.

Has anyone else had this problem???

nope.. cos I buy HJC, which offers similar performance and functionality ( as well as safety) for a fraction of the price Wink

pointless and unhelpful I know, but there you go..

I've tried on both Shoei and Arai, and didn't feel either were a particulalry good fit..

Shoei Raid helmets are a very good fit for me.
Shoei Raid II helmets aren't nearly as good a fit (though still a lot better than most.)

At some point I'll try on more of the Shoei range, but wandering around Ally Pally a couple of years ago nothing from other makes really came close to the original Shoei Raid.

I've got the Haga rep and am pretty sure it's a RX7 Corsair.

I've always had an Arai shaped head but I've recently found that Shoeis are becoming more suitedto my head, while Arai still fit fine. So, I might even venture over to the dark side when I next change my lid. Which, looking at my finances, should be in 2028 sometime Rolling Eyes

Cheers

Rubbish

Why then would MOST arai owners not want cheap lids?

I bought an Arai and I won an HJC for writing a star letter to Superbike. The HJC is a poorly made piece of shite compared to the arai. I have worn Shark, AGV, HJC and Arai lids and the Arai is the best by far.

If I can afford a Shoei next time and I find one to fit, I might go for it as their graphics are far better than Arai's.

Cheers

Arai build quality I found to be quite poor on my top of the range lid I had a few years ago; shoei was definitely better compared to that one.

My Arai's (Quantum f) have been faultless but I am after a quieter lid next time. I always use earplugs and always will but the Arai is just too noisy.

I reckon only Shoei will satisfy my requirements though.

Cheers

I've found my Shoeis to be quite noisey - but the good fit makes up for it, so I use ear plugs.

I've noticed that everyone says their lid is noisy and will get a quieter one in future, so where are these magical quiet lids.
Both my AGV are noisy the stealth being a little quieter than the longway. Now I've never seen a pole on quiet lids before and the trouble is its subjective as some lids wont fit some people and a reletivly quiet lid to someone may be another mans noisy.
So whats the criteria for a quiet lid? no vents I'd guess and pointed like a dart (giger's alien shape) so looking in your mirror would snap your neck.

I've had Arai's from almost day one(couldn't afford one as my first lid), Im now on my third one.
I find Arai fit my head well, no other make seems to fit as well, but I suppose if they change the shape or you change so will the helmet for you.

same reason so many people buy AlpineStars or Dainese, even tho it's been shown they are no better than cheaper brands..

it's cos it's a name, and a name they know..

it's also prevalent in here, to some extent, with the "i'd not trust my head to a cheap helmet" attitude; even tho research has shown that many 'cheaper' helmets are just as safe as their expensive counterparts.

good reading here:
https://motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/hatz/

In summary...

The crash protection provided by 'budget' helmets is excellent, even compared to the 'premium' ones of a few years ago. The Snell certification used on many helmets in the US compromises their performance for typical road accidents because they have to be too stiff. Many 'premium' helmets in the US are Snell certified, while 'budget' ones often aren't.

So while not directly relevant to the EU it supports my lack of faith in the "if you don't buy Arai, you don't value your life"attitude, or "Superstar racer X wore one in big crash Y and he's not dead, so they must be good" and the "Yeah they meet the standards but Arai exceed them" arguments.
