Hi all,

I've been reading these forums for the last 2 months since passing my DAS test (10 minors...oops). I feel like I've come to know a few of the characters on here and really appreciate the excellent advice which always seems to be on hand whenever anyone has a problem. I really feel I've joined a community.

I can't wait to pick up my new bike - an SV650K6 which I'm collecting in 2 days time Very Happy - how time is dragging.

Just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself in the meantime.

Very Happy

I'm living in Stafford, so if anyone riding in the area on Thursday evening sees a bloke on a red SV650 wobbling down the A34 then it's me...

Cheers for the invitation Fran...I'd love to hook up with a few more riders in the area.

I'll look out for you on your astoundingly large machine - I think I'd kill myself if I got anything more powerful than a 650. I'm going to be nervous as hell when I ride away from Chells on Thursday. Hoping for decent weather!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone...

No pics of bike yet as I'm a dumbass. I kicked myself after I bought the bike for not having taken my camera, then as I got halfway home in the car I realised I'd had my mobile in my pocket and could've used that....so kicked myself even harder.

I'll post pics when I've picked it up on Thursday...it's being taxed and having a Datatool fitted at the mo...

Looks like Thursday's going to be a dry day *relief* and maybe some good weather for the weekend too - not that I'm going to be a 'sunny days only' rider (though there's nothing wrong with that) but I don't want to drop it on the first day 'cos of rain!

I just have this persistent nightmare of me riding away on my shiny new bike and with shiny new kit only to plough into a parked car or something similarly stupid in front of a bunch of salesmen and mechanics all pissin' themselves laughing. Cold sweat....yuk.

Hello and welcome Very Happy

Nice choice of bike. You will really enjoy your SV, they are a great bike Thumbs Up (I am of course very biased being the owner of one myself - see sig below Mr. Green ). Post some pics up when you get it!

As Fran says join the North users section. We are planning a meet up in Squires (https://www.squires-cafe.co.uk) this sat 23rd at 12oclock, then going for a ride out. Loads heading up from your area so you could join them - good opportunity to run-in your SV Razz

P.S. Do as the manual says regards runing in. The SV doesn't like being thrashed from day one Wink

I did something similar, passed my DAS, bought a bike on Ebay then 3 days later rode it 70miles home in my leathers shitting myself with all the traffic, loved it when I got home and have clocked up near to a 700 miles in under 2 months Wink

It's taken me just under 2 weeks to be confident on mine. I guarantee that within two weeks you'll be wondering what all the fuss was about!

If you feel nervous coming out the shop and feel the need to put both feet down then do it! Much better and less embarrassing than dropping it... I was convinced i'd drop my R6 (which is my first bike) well 1400 miles later and ive kept her rubber side down Smile

Enjoy!

Thanks Andrea...

In less than 24 hours I'll have my bike! Very Happy

Will post pics when I get it home tomorrow evening.

One other question...is it worth getting a hugger fitted? And if not, how often do I need to clean the sh*t off? Oh, and should I invest in an automatic chain oiler?

And extreme3d I LOVE your bike in black! Where do I get a respray? Wink

Rear hugger will keep the crap off the rear shock, and IMO make the bike look more complete if you go for a colour matched one.

Cleaning is entirely down to you, but you know you wont be able to have it looking dirty in your garage Wink

Self lubing system for the chain? Entirely up to you, depends on whether you think you are going to remember to lube it or not.....

A rear hugger is essential (go for the official suzuki one as it fits far better), but even more important than that is a front fender extender! The pointy SV's have a front HT lead protector now (glamorous name for a rubber flap) so water ingress is not such an issue. Yet that front fender is far to short and covers the engine up to the lower yolk with dirt if left as-is. Suzuki don't actually make one but pyramid plastics do. I've got one on mine so can vouch it fits on fine.
