Mate of mine is just about to get his bike back on the road. This is to make the commute to work easier, at least until the frost and ice set in.

However, suggested a shakedown tour for a weekend away. Probably B&B so not taking lots of gear, more of a spur of the moment picking the weekend sort of thing. Wouldn't rule out camping but not the first choice.

So, question is, as anyone got any suggestions for route/area. Will be setting out from Hull or York. Probably setting out late on a Friday or early Saturday, back Sunday evening. The dales was mentioned but is that enough for 2 days? However, it was also pointed out Newcastle/Edinburgh are only a few hours away Confused If that's the case then I did fancy a visit to Hartshead cafe as never stopped there before.

Suggestions, routes and stopping off points welcome. Ta Thumbs Up

Thinking some possible suggestions for adventure:

The A684 is a nice road that will take you through the Yorkshire dalse to the Lake District where there is plenty to see and do and ride...and plenty of B&B's

West'ish' of Ambleside is wrynose pass and hardknott pass which are pretty challenging roads, more info here: https://www.rural-roads.co.uk/lakes/wrynose.shtml (more info on that site so have a look through)

'IF' you fancy camping there is a nice campsite at eskdale on the other side of the hardknott pass and located in beautiful surroundings: https://www.fishergroundcampsite.co.uk/

There is also Devils Bridge in the area which is supposed to be a popular biker hang-out if your into that....but its not supposed to be much else apart from that.

The A592 running along by Ulswater is a nice biker road and will take you up to Penrith roandabout which will lead onto the A686, another great biking road that has the hartside cafe you spoke of situated half way along: https://www.hartside.com/hartside.html ( with more info on the main site: https://www.hartside.com/ )

From that point at the Hartside cafe you have the choice of riding the rest of the A686 which will bring you out nearish to hexham or you can take the alternative experience of the A689 which will lead you to Stanhope and eventually to Bishop Auckland.

That route would would work out as a nice enjoyable weekend circuit.

look here for a head start to finding biker friendly accomodation: https://www.bike-stay.net/

The borders and Edinburgh are definately options but maybe a bit far for just a weekend from Hull, but if you travel up try to avoid the A1 which is dull and try to follow the more interesting A697 or A68.

My old stomping grounds of Newcastle are definately worth visiting, especially for the nightlife (Whitley bay can have its charms too) and if your there you must visit Westgate road (the hill): https://www.westgatehill.com/ (an entire road full of bike shops Thumbs Up ). If your there try and have a run north into Northumberland where you can find many nice roads and you will find quite a biker scene out at Rothbury on a sunday afternoon with a nice run out there.

I hope that is helpful, but please let me know if I can offer any more assistance

Of course depending on when you plan to head off on your weekend Stormin' the castle is worth considering first weekend in september: https://www.storminthecastle.co.uk/

some good suggestions there Thumbs Up

I used to go to devils bridge alot when I was in lancaster, the roads aroudn there are good, but theres a lot of police on a sunday and its a canny trek from hull...

Hartside is well worth a look, and edinburgh would be great because you can ride the fantastic A68 all the way up Thumbs Up

Remember there are gatsos on the A68. Good fun though, it's like a rollercoaster in places.

Nothing until you're in Scotland though for the Gatsos. Northumberland was pretty sparse the last time I was through there. It's an ace road though.
