Finally have a bike! Seems so long since I passed my DAS back in July.

I bought a black GSXR 600 K6 from Crescent Suzuki in Bournemouth. They were great people to deal with.

I didn't manage to test ride the 600's that I wanted since insurance cover was the big problem. I wouldn't risk a test ride out without any... So I sat on the K6 and it seemed to suit me 100% more than the K4. The k4 seemed a lot bigger and I was on tip toe... The K6 I could flat foot - I'm 5' 8" BTW. So spent more than I wanted but the bike is better for me.

Insurance express came up with a good price too. Tried a quote on the website and it was £1500+ TPFT Sad . They called me the next day to say that it was wrong and could do it for £485 TPFT Very Happy . H & R were £550. Bennett's were £680... The others were way higher.

Went to quite a few places yesterday covering some A roads, twisty B roads and a few tight country lanes. I got on well with the bike and easier to ride than I thought it would be... Did about 100 mile but I'm still running the engine in so no more than 8k revs. I thought that I was going pretty quick anyway but my friend out with me was obviously riding much slower as it was my first ride out. I must have been going slow tho as I always had cars behind me or catching me up - doh!!! Shocked I was on roads I didn't know but probably slowing too much for corners if I couldn't tell how sharp they were. Loads of friendly bikers out giving the nod - that's a bit of a new experience coming from a BMW M3 where I would get other sign language Laughing

The exhaust and induction noise on the Gixer IMO is really nice. By the end of the day it was all I could hear droning away in my ears and the appeal was wearing off Laughing . Wrists started to ache as did lower back.

Popped over to Maccy D's by Bassetts Pole. Bloody kids chucking acorns in the air onto the lids whilst we were wearing them getting ready to leave. Thought it was highly amusing as we looked up at the trees. Soon shut up when we collard them Evil or Very Mad Laughing

Someone had an off on the roundabout - they got back up but hope there bike isn't too badly damaged.

So after 100 miles and loads of different places the only problem I had was on my neighbour's drive!!! Slight slope to there drive way and was doing a slow tight turn. First time ever I had a bike go over on me. Somehow managed to jump off and get round the side. It looked like it was resting on the fairing but I must have taken the weight just in time and lifted it straight up. Didn't want to look but not a single scratch - how lucky Praying ... That would have been a sickener on the 1st outing! Maybe I should get some R & G's Idea ... and be more careful Rolling Eyes

Cheers,

J

Yes get R&G's, as you have just discovered they are worth their weight in gold. If you hadn't caught the weight in time the bike would have cracked and badly scuffed all that nice plastic around the mounting points etc Mad

Yeah i also found out this week how difficult slow tight turns on a sports bike are Laughing had a few wobbles but havent managed to let go yet... the slow stuff really does get easier with practise, but i would highly recommend r&g's, i have them on mine.

Now lets see some pics! Twisted Evil

Drag the rear brake and slip the clutch, keeps the bike more stable Thumbs Up I couldn't believe the difference it made to slow speed maneouvers.

matt_uk - I'm from Birmingham. It was a 6hr round trip in the van to collect the Gixer. Yep overall I was impressed with Crescents and would recommend them. Cool

Agreed - Sports bikes arent hard to turn and are much more stable at slow speeds than 125's. Only limitation is the reduced steering lock. Apart from that they arent any easier or harder to manouvre than an ER5 etc that you will have done the DAS on. Just stay well away from that front brake lever, and as Jack_cheese says drag the back brake and slip the clutch.

....and back on topic - lovely bike Smile

Nice bike. Out of interest, what was so special about Crescent that you used them instead of a much closer dealer ?

Who are you rimming at R&G that keeps on bullying you into endorsing them everytime someone whispers the word?

We all know they're great, you don't need to emphasise it!

Nice bike TC...job pending, i'll be getting one as well Very Happy

That's a pretty nice bike, looks good in black. Crescent's is just down the road from me and I think they've also got their racing bit over in Verwood in Dorset. When I went in there looking around the salesman bloke remembered me still from when I went in there about 2 years ago.

Would'nt have minded trying the gixxer but got carried away with the zx-6r and bought that instead.
