down in our car park there has been a bike that i call the ghost bike, it's a piaggio 125 thing and the riders lid is chained to the back wheel, it's been there for what seems to be at least a year, no tax disc and has a layer of dust on it.

a guy at work says that if he phones the dvla and asks for the owners details (at a cost of £20) and the dvla can't find the owner, he can then apply for a V5 doc for the bike from the dvla.

is this the case???

there is also a cub 50 down there aswell now with out of date tax, possibly dumped.

You could get the V5 but it still doesn't mean you legaly own the bike.

yea the guy may just not want to use it or hasn't bothered moving it for an age. doesn't mean you'd be able to just take it.
if it's in a private car park, then it would mean he has permission to have it on that land, which means he doesn't need to have it taxed.

how would you feel if this happened to one you bike because you had left it chained up for a long while Wink
