I have to move out of my house within the next 6 weeks as my landlord is selling. I have a garage at the moment which is where i keep my bike when not in use.

There aren't any houses within this vicinity to let at the moment with a garage, some have a shed, and one (the one that would be best for me to live in) has no access to the shed as its terraced Confused

How do you store your bikes? Mine is immaculate and worth around £5k, what would you do? Would it invalidate my home insurance and tenancy agreement if i kept it in the kitchen?

Mines in the garage, it was a stipulation when we bought the house we are in now as the one before didnt have one and even though it was a sleepy village I wasnt keen on leaving the bike on the road.

mine is round the back of the house-which means going down the driveway and behind a locked fence where its parked-where its completely out of site.
i regard that as garaged, both for this thread and when getting insurance! Laughing

I keep mine in my garage, have an extra lock on the door, disc brake lock on front wheel, data tool python padlock and chain (the biggest one) through a ground hog 3 ground anchor and the bike is allarmed and allways has steering lock on. Gives me a piece of mind.

Garage is best bet as it offers weather protection but indoors would be fine if you could put up with the smell. Dont know about insurance though

So no one keeps it in the house then? My dad had a ground floor flat many years ago and kept it in the bedroom. I suppose if the worse came to the worse i could use my mom's garage, but i like it to be at home where i can keep an eye on it Confused

I can relate to the rental property difficulties, I only have a driveway at my current place, but she's chained to the fence with a chunky chain and disc lock too, and I always keep her covered.

When I move from this place I'll be trying to find a place to rent with garage, shed or back yard access but circumstances may mean she's even relegated to the road! Sad

It's unsafe to keep a bike in the house because of the fumes & i really would hate to get it in & out everyday.

I keep mine outside, even leave my keys in it sometimes (I forget)

Mine is garaged - with the steering lock on, disc lock on front wheel, and chained. Think I'm a bit paranoid.

I wouldn't want to keep a bike in the house.

normally the FJR and 2 others live in the garage (depending which i'm using when) the FZR lives on thwe drive with a disklock and a big f'off chain, and the one that didn't fit in the garage lives in the back garden.

at the moment, the Firestorm is chained to the FZR, as the FJR rebuild means I've got no space in the garage atm.

I'm picking up this GPZ tomorrow.. god knows where I'll put it Neutral

Round the back of the flat out of site from the road where my washing should be, anchord, chanied & disc locked. But most importantly it is covered with a proper cover Thumbs Up

The bottom line is no bike is unstealable, you just want to make it as hard as you can for them.

Mine is in a carpark with cover over it. In about a month we are moving house so I will have my own driveway and shed so it will stay in there.

Which is why the one thing we demanded from a house when we were buying was a garage.
The garage is locked, with extra padlocks and chocks.
The bikes are chained and disclocked, and we will be getting a ground anchor, though for the time being the rogue engine hoist that was left in the garage when we moved in will do.

I can understand your tempatation to use the kitchen, but it's not wholly practical and it will be a real effort to get it in and out every day.
I'd be tempted to keep looking at other houses... be really clear with the agents that you see about needing secure off road parking. If you have an offroad area where you can install a ground anchor that would be better than bringing the bike inside.

Gonna pick up a ground Anchor this week. The bike is in a locked garage with a big chain through the front and my toolbx, immobolised, alarmed and steering lock on. There's also a car parked up against the door so you can't get in (or out) without moving it. The back of the garage has another full garage door do I can drive a car right through, onto the garden and right into my kitchen if I so felt the need...Smile

Andrea as much as you love your new bike are you sure it's worth £5K Shocked You can buy brand new 600's on interest free for that money.

But thats besides the point...

FFIW, mines in a garage, with 2 ground anchors, Almax chain to one and Kryponite chain to the other. With Datatool S3 Alarm. I still feel relieved when I open the door every morning to see its still there.

Garages aren't all that safe if it's attached to the house. In the house through a window, internal door between house and garage isn't gonna stop anyone and if they can lift your keys from somewhere in the house they just start it up and kick the garage door in from the inside (far easier than from the outside) and off they toddle.

Pneumatic bolt cutters will go through any hardened steel chain in a second with no noise at all.

My bike is in the back yard blocked in by two cars, we also have infra-red cctv, 3 movement lights and a rottweiler Smile

Even that didnt stop someone taking the cover off and having a look at what was underneath, least we got it recorded though.

Mines is in the Kitchen, pisses the missus off at times but the room is big enough to take it.....

Also makes it handy for changing light bulbs.....

I use to keep my 400 in the hall Laughing was no longer an option when it blew and leaked oil everywhere... and all my other bikes are physically too big but if you can fit it in your home, then thats the best place for it Wink

Not sure really, but that's how much my friend payed for it 2 months ago, and he's spent a fair bit since on a private plate/exhaust etc. That's how much ive covered it for on insurance.

Ive seen the house now, there's only a small gap in the wall to get to the front door, but going to ask the landlord if i can make the gate bigger and then get one of those steel bike huts. Will have to be at the front of the house though. Anyone used one of these before? Its like a big steel box. Must find out what its called.
