If you were watching carefully, you'll have noticed that the guy who was seriously injured on his trials 'bike wasn't wearing proper 'bike kit.
If you're riding off-tarmac then your feet and legs are very vulnerable (it applies to on-tarmac riding too for that matter). Why do you think MX boots are so solid?
The guy in the programme was wearing what looked like combats and rigger boots - not the most robust kit for that sort of thing.
I was a bit worried it would be the usual anti-bike rubbish, but it even showed one of the Police officers riding legally on "green lanes".
