Due to my new job in crawley which is 35 miles away on purely motorway Rolling Eyes l need somethink a bit more robust than my current FX400R that can also; carry a pillion/top speed of at lest 100mph/good on fuel/reliable.

Any suggestions?

budget would be around £800 and engine size does,nt matter as long as its bigger than 250cc.

Go for a faired Divvy, mate. You won't regret it. Did 700 miles on mine at the weekend, I have a renewed respect the bike. I have even been put off getting a newer bike, I thought well, what's the point?

Not on that budget Shocked

Divvy, Bandit, GPZ, CB500, ER5, KLE500, GS500 are the only ones remotely like what you're after. They're just suggestions off the top of my head in that price range, no idea what they're like to live with or own. You'll be wanting a screen, though. 100mph isn't nice on nakeds Sad

A GPZ will get 120 no bother (128 in the books, 125 on mine with a long enough road), even on one which hasn't been serviced for too long Embarassed . It'll accelerate to 110 quickly but much more slowly after that.

It'll return anywhere between 45-60 mpg, depending on how hard you thrash it. On the motorway at 70-80 it'll return at least 55 or so. There is a certain point in the rev range about which it starts being fun (7 or so k). Keep it below that and you'll return pretty good mileage. 75 mph will be at about 6k rpm.

Should be able to get a tattyish original CBR600F for that.
Or how about an FZR of some kind - seen quite a few do pretty high mileages.

Got a TRX for sale (yours for £700 as is), but needs some work (still runs ok), so probably not of interest.

(Or buy my beemer, a fair bit under ya' budget Razz )

About 120mph given enough room. 110 with ease and more than enough punch to see off all but the best sports cars. The fairing is very effective and they have a comfy pillion seat. Insurance is also cheap and perhaps best of all is that you can drop them all you like - that fairing won't touch the deck. Expect a good 55/60mpg, more if you are carefull. The later D/E versions look better and to a typical non biker look like a sports bike so you still get que-dos at work/uni Cool

Oh, and the engine is about as reliable as they come. The GPZ has the most powerful version it comes in, but the basic lump has (still is) seen service as 4 variants in 4 different bikes for over a decade.

What more would you want from a commuter?

Fazer 600 (BEFORE they put injectors on it, it totally ruined the bike), got a screen, good for 130 (saw it on the clocks once), and some good fun as well. As for MPG Im not too sure, but, if its motorways Avon Azaro ST's are a good fitment, my dad used the bike for 4 months doing Tipton -> Sheffield (circa 95miles) on a set, they had only just begun to square off.

BUT, they are complete and utter shite in the wet, oftimes not even getting warm after a spirted run in damp conditions.

I rode GS500's during my DAS but the wind effect at motorway speeds could get really tiring IMO.

I've recently bought a GPZ500, and couldn't be happier. A fairing and screen to protect against the wind, a reliable, alledgedly bulletproof engine, good performance, decent fuel economy, cheap insurance.... etc etc Thumbs Up Very Happy

Cx 500?

cruise all day at 90, £800 will get you a showroom example (if you look carefully) or 600 for a good one and 100 for a ratty donor bike.. rediculously low miaintainance, comfy as a comfy thing, shaft drive.

(had one as a first bike, ended up getting another!)

50mpg, done 200+ miles on a tank before fully loaded on the motorway.

My dad has one of them, amazing things he had it 26 years before it broke, stupidly low insurance (unless they suspect despatch rider) Plus it has a shaft so no chain to prat about too. My dad brought an after market fairing for his too.

Don't fall into the courier bike trap! , I'm on my 2nd NTV now and have a GT550 stored somewhere , once you get hooked by courier bikes its hard to get out ,

I keep comparing sports bikes and the high maintenance compared to courier rat bikes.
