Hey I saw A article in a magazine were a fazer 1000 had done 230 000 miles Shocked and a FJ with 180k , without any major engine problems. Which I was shocked about, most bikes hardly do a quarter of that, before something goes bang.

So I was wondering if any of you have had a bike with so many miles.

Why do bikes generally do less miles than cars? I assume it is because they rev higher.

They rev higher, and bikes are more easily written off than cars are Razz. Oh and then there's the weather issue (summer riders) and so many get put on a track. i bet a few are clocked, too...

Depends on how they're looked after and how they're ridden though...

If it's serviced well, valve clearances done etc, cam chain replaced, CCT every so often.

When I have an old high mileage bike that I'm just piling miles on, those kind of things I'm not too bothered about.

Once an engine has those kind of miles on it, imagine the state of the other stuff too though. Wheel bearings, brakes, etc.

I have heard lots of stories of bikes going around the clocks twice though. Stinkwheel has the best stories of that IIRC.

If you're the sort of person who will service the motor for that sort of mileage then you're not going to be bothered by replaceing wheel bearings and brake caliper seals occaisionally as well.
