helllo, just writing this up to seek advice really, (sorry for a long post)
the bike in question is a 2000 Aprilia SR50 DITECH with 12,000km on the clock with a full service history. the bike was my old run about and was laid up for three years with little use. that aside.
i stripped it down to the body work to check everything over, check the brakes etc.. then my sis began to use it, on her CBT it broke down and couldn;t be started again.
gave in and took it to the only aprilia registered mechanics in my local area, he had a look at it and said the compressor in the engine was knackered, so £70 and a two week wait later this arrives. the bike now starts and rev's however it refuses to idle...

so for my advice (sorry for the long post!)
the compressor that was in the engine had ground flat Shocked so it had a square edge (common with SR50's aparently) the mechanic (who i know fairly well) now seems to think it is down on compression and could be why the engine won't idle over. from this he seems to think the cylinder wall has been damaged by this knackered compressor Shocked
so it would seem we are now looking at a top end rebuild as the head has to be pulled off for inspection Sad gutted cos the repair bill has already amounted to over £200 Crying or Very sad

does anyone know why this bike may not idle? the mech did not have the stats at hand so when he did a compression check on the cylinder he had nothing to quote it against... any inspirations would be great... is it possible the injection fueling messed up? he said the bike starts fine with a bit of revs on and also revs up from the throttle fine however it won't idle or it does then dies....
its costing too much to be changed £60 an hour so have someone slowley poke every nook and cranney on the bike to find the fault and aprilia lead times on parts are appauling Thumbs Down

hi, i would start simple first. Strip the carb and clean it all throughly. I reckon that because its been stood, petrol mixed with oil in the carb will have evaporated leaving a film of oil and dirt which may be blocking the idle and choke jets. Take each jet out and blow thru them with compressed air. then re try to start.

it did a good 90km after comming out of storage, problem is, its a fuel injected bike controlled by an ECU Thumbs Down

it only puts me off getting a ECU controlled fuel injected machine...
