Not the most beautiful of cars, but looks cheap, cheerful and fit for purpose, namely a car for winters that will hopefully put an end to buying £500 shitters.

£3999 brand new isn't bad, reviews ( including a piece on Top Gear - James May liked it, Clarkson blew one up with dynamite

https://paultan.org/archives/2005/12/19/jeremy-clarkson-annihilates-the-perodua-kelisa/

suggest it was a fine city car and surprisingly fun to drive and nippy at the lights due to it's gearing. Anyone got experience of this car?

Why not spemd £4k on a decend 2nd hand car?

Chances are you'll have less problems and loose less in depreciation.

You'd be better off on a car forum if your looking for people who actually have experience of the car. I suspect most bikers are likely to look elsewhere for 4 wheeled transport than a brand new Perodua.

Are they not part of Diahutsu?

Ive just sold a Seat Arosa 1.0, 2 year old, 1 years warranty remaining and 10k on the clocks. It had power steering, alloy wheels, central locking, MP3 player, electric windows and two airbags. Sold it for £3800.

I think theres better cars to be had for your 4k Thumbs Up

My mum was given one as a hire car when her land rover discovery was in for some work.

We had it 2 weeks in total and it was the shittest car ive ever been in / driven.
It had only covered around 500 miles when we got it, but pieces were falling off etc. It seemed like it was a 20 year old car with 1/2 million miles on the clock without a service. It was fecking awful

It looked cheap, felt cheap and the build quality was about as good as a child with lego.

Avoid like the plague imo.

Theres nothing wrong with cheap cars, i had a vauxhall nova as my first car. Cost me £250 i kept it 2 years, went through 2 mots no problem. The only things i ever had to replace were a tyre (£15) and a handbrake cable (£10).
It started first time every time even in winter and never missed a beat. It was cheap to run, excellent on fuel and the best thing was i sold it for £300 after 2 years.

My £3000 Land Rovery Discovery will still be worth £3000 next year (unless i roll it over again) Rolling Eyes , it will be worth more than the Perodua in 12 months time.

I'd certainly NOT be looking at one of those, however, if its economy and easy parking you want then i guess it makes more sense.
May be false economy though.

if youre after a small cheap to run and good economy get a late model peugeot/citroen diesel.

At that sort of money, youre looking at a last of line 106/saxo with the 1.5d motor. If looked after properly they will do many miles (im up to 162K and counting) whilst returning good economy (regularly see 60+mpg at sensible motorway speeds).

even despite the alleged inferiority of the french build, mine has been no problems, and i would wager it would last/hold value ten times better than some cheap tat like a perodua or whatever it is.

Good luck

If you have XUD or XUTD engine doing that you probably fitted a fuel filter with no non return valve - like the champion one from halfords. The fuel runs back down to the tank. Fit a proper peugeot fuel filter and it'll be ok.

Balls to it. Got an F reg Pug 205 1.6 XS coming my way. It belongs to my wifes grandma who has had it since new, 40k, full history. Chuffed, I've had my eye on it for a while and it just so happens she is wanting rid of it to make way for a new car just as I am looking for one. No power steering though, but I'll live with that. Not sure of a price yet, she is asking her mechanic tomorrow. Fingers crossed it's under a monkey. I continue in my £500 a car path.

Funny that..

Mines a first wind starter without even a full heat in the plugs after standing for a week. Given the mileage and its lack of spohistication, if anything would have given problems, then I would expect this to.

I have seen well over 200,000 miles on a 1.5TUD motor, and likewise on the XUDs (both turbo and non).

you might want to suggest to your friends that they look at the glowstart relay on the car. I have known one fail on a DW8 (1.9 non turbo d) in works berlingo, and it leads to the relay not delivering the full 12v to the plugs.

Ergo lack of heat, and ergo poor start/lumpy when it does. Even with this problem, it will start quite quickly.
