Good morning..I thought I'd ask here as I've exhuasted the kind chaps over at the fazerclub
I'd be grateful of any advice.. the thing is last week, after having not used the bike for a while and putting it through the MOT, the Autocom (pro 7 2005 version) would emit a really loud squeal. I could stop it by removing the high volume jack but once I activate the mike (VOX only, no PTT), it would start again or it would start when I plugged the jack back in.
Also the music from MPĀ£ sounded really dull and lost all treble.
I had a look at the wires.. OK including checking the power to both Autocom and dummy battery to Knewood, tried other jacks for MP3, OK.. only have one headset and no pillion so couldn;t test that. Tried adding Kenwood to the set up .. same thing. pressiing tranmit after removing high volume jack would start the squeal again.
I removed the headset and re-connected the earphones/mike and made sure the wires were OK.. yes.
I also tested the power on the Autocom using a 9v battery (well it turned out to be just about dead but it squeal for a few dieing seconds )
So I took it round to a foccer's place and we tested it.
My headset was fine on his. He had a look and just confirmed the power setting to the autocom and pushed it in slithly.. now the music sounds good and squeal has gone.
HOWEVER.. by looking at it, I've manged to make the kenwood not function anymore.
It's a TK 3207 bought from a Uk seller on Ebay.. pre programmed to 0.5W standard (1-8) and 5W standard channels (9-16) though use on 0.5 as found bad interference and poor coms on higher settings. I don't have the cable or software and not sure what the side buttons are set to.. Not subchannels ot QT etc are set AFAIK.
basically, I can recieve fine but nothing can be heard when I send. The red transmit light goes on, but othe other radio doesnt go green..
I've been suspicious of this radio for a while.. bought it in apair and one went to a friend (Black Knight.. on here used to have a Viffer).
They are meant to have a channel announcment to say what chanell you're one but after a couple of days after getting it, all I have been getting is squelch to confirm channel change. Also, you're meant to get a voice saying what VOX volume and gain setting you're on when you set that up.. nothing on mine.
I know theses can be set up with the software but initailly I WAS getting the voice..hmmm
So I think the issue with the power must've been the connector somehow though not sure how a loose plug causes a horrible squeal.. I've had the cable rub and break coming out of the Pro 7 before as I never got a gormmet and that didn't cause squeal, just cutting out.
Anyway, looks like that's fixed (hopefully).
But somehow, whether the radio's dodgey or we pressed a side button inadvertently, the radio won't send, even though it says it is..
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Oh yes and before I end, I've read a few topic on here about people's range.. always been very poor.. line of sight but only 500m or so. I know we only use 0.5W but that doesn't seem good. Radio stored under seat.surely I should get better range? and %W setting should be working.. I thought maybe 5W setting makes it disctort or have backgraound at close range ie a few metres, but I know someone who has that and it's crystal
Thank guys.
