BT090 Rant!

My BT090 has only lasted 3000 miles

Went to get a new front tyre today and he took my rear wheel off to start with and when I asked him why he took the rear off he said it's cause he thought that was what was getting changed because it's almost illegal.

I know 090's are soft rubber and don't last that long, but I thought I'd get more than 3000 bloody miles

Anyway, I asked him what he thought might be good. I said I need something that lasts longer than that but still has as much stickiness as possible. (Although the 090 didn't last long, whilst it was on I was very impressed with the stickiness of it!)

He suggested a tyre called a Continental something or other. It's cheaper than the 090 aswell!

Anyone ever tried these tyres or can recommend something better suited for my needs?

3k from a bt090 is about right, no surprises there.

I'd opt for a bt92 rear with an 090 front if you wanted a good compromise between grip and durability.

Soft tyres die v quickly , whats the surprise ? , theres always a trade off , grippier = shorter life , less grippy ie TobyR's magic tyre which was made from concrete and lasted 10K... probably what makes sports bike touring so expensive.

You can get more miles from other tyres - but its really more important to try to find one that suits the style of yor riding and your bike.
It does make a big difference to wear if you accelerate more gently when you don't need to rocket off.

I haven't used a good continetal tyre yet. Haven't tried their road attacks, but I'm lead to believe they don't last longer than other similar tyres from other brands.

Personally I would still go for a fairly sticky front and a not so sticky rear. On my SV650 I run a Supercorsa (race tyre) front along with a BT010 rear. Because the 010 is generally made for bigger bikes than the 090, it lasts longer on a lower powered bike.

Both tyres are part worn, with plenty of life left - £25 each, or so.

I have Road Attacks on my GSXR400 and have to say they are a great tyre. Fast warm up, good profile, look trick, and seem to be fairly durable. If you want a slightly more track tyre give the sport attacks a whirl. Road Attacks are a great tyre though. ( I have 2 mm chicken strips and not a wobble so far)

I doubt the road attacks are available in nc30 rear sizes.

I quite like Dunlop's new GPR100 on my nc30, it's a sports touring tyre but has a nice rounded profile and decent grip. Easily enough to get your knee down on the road etc. I came back from Spain after doing 4200 miles and the rear still had a decent bit of tread left.

Other sports touring alternative is Bridgestones BT92, but the profile is a bit square for my liking.

Erm, what does that link actually tell us, it just says what sizes the nc30 takes as far as I can see.

I have had no problem with them, and have had the bike lent fairly well over.

I put a BT090 on the back of my SZR and it lasted about 2k.

I did the odd burn out and deliberate back-brake-lockup though.

BT92 rear and BT90 front gets my vote, too.

Buy race scrubs off ebay and they'll cost you £20 each.

I'll vouch for the old Road Attack once more as I just got my kneedown on them easily, no wobbles or shocks. That's my first ever KD. These are great tyres.
