Ok, I start my new job on the 16th of october.

My baby son is due on the 25th november.

What I am wondering is, at present I have been going to every midwife appointment with the wife. There will be one more before the due date. However I will be working.

Also I am entitled to 8weeks parental leave (upto age of 5) as was thinking of taking 2 weeks partenity leave when the baby is born when I was in my old job.

Now I dont want to take the piss after only being there a month, but should I ask for the time off for the last midwife appointment and a few days off after the baby is born? Karma

Yes, but don't necessarily expect full pay.

Parental leave and paternity leave are 2 different things though.

Paternity leave is a statutory right and you are entitled to a statutory payment (think it's about £100/week).

Parental leave is also a statutory right, is intended to be taken in domestic emergencies and carries no automatic right to pay of any sort.

FFS. Why are you asking us. Ask your employer.

In the meantime, here's how to tie your laces, just so you don't have to ask us when you start your new job.
