They expect me to pay £15 for it!!

It's rather rusty, and the motor is seized, but it seems to be all there. I thought it might make a bit of a project and a joke to ride to the office on, that will probably end up back in the dump.

I haven't bought it yet, I thought I'd see what people here had to say about it.

It's a Solex bicycle on an 'N' Reg (1975) I believe.[/img]

£15 for a classic./. bargain.

if you dn't want it.. I'll take it off your hands Very Happy

it's got an engine.. so it's not a bicycle. it qualifies as a moped.

I have an nsr which is a bicycle according to the tax disc..., so yes, I believe you would need insurance, especially as it has a number plate.

I was just dropping off some stuff I couldn't sell on FleaBay.

Two good sofas they were, and even the dump guy didn't want them!

Anyway, I saw the bike and couldn't resist a closer look. I asked what happens to it from here and the guy said I could buy it for £15. I told him I'd think about it and that was that.

It's quite rusty, as I said, but nothing a lot of a rub down and respray couldn't sort out. I'm looking to see how available spares are at the moment.

I was wondering if one would need to wear a helmet. It's very similar to a pushbike, just with an engine on the front.

It's still a moped, so it's helmet, tax, MOT and insurance. For £15, I'd have it in a heartbeat.

From this site

The Solex is a powered bicycle, not a moped. It
was invented in 1946 in France...In the U.K. the Solex has to be licensed. The
rider has to be 16 years or over and must wear a
crash helmet. The Solex's outstanding reliability
and performance figures, 23 mph+ and
200+ mpg....

Map, I was just reading that on the link you posted.

Shaggy, If I'd had the cash at the time, I probably would have bought it, but I didn't, so I didn't. That prompted me to think about it. After reading about it on the Net, I'm going there tomorrow morning to see if it's still there.

The moral of the story is.....................

ALWAYS carry cash for those impulsive buys.

I took another van load to the tip, and some money to buy this Velosolex..........................

What did I see? An empty space where the bike was!

A Chinese guy bought it not long after I left. Apparantly he had one, and wanted another.

Oh well. Suppose I better spend the winter finishing the house, repairing my GPX, finishing the garage and restoring my old Triumph Herald. Oh, and somewhere in all this I have to work and play with the kids etc etc.

Good job you got to it before D&K found it, otherwise some poor fecker would be buying as a secondhand '98 R1...

A mate of mine is building a twin engined autocycle to enter in a moped mayhem. It consiste of a "Le Gitane" frame with a Velosolex front-end fitted.

Despite having two engines, it still only comes to 48cc.
