I had a zxr400, paid £1500 for it and loved it. I only sold it because i found it a bit too cramped up and wanted a change to a 600, which should be arriving shortly Cool

Just make sure that the cam chain and valve clearences have been done as i had to fork out for them not long after buying it.

I have a CBR 400! (Pics of it are in the general bike pics section Very Happy ) It's not a bad little bike, but as 400's go, I'd rather an NC30 anyday! Just very hard to get one over here that's not been thrashed within an inch of it's life! Rolling Eyes I paid just over 1800 euros for it (which works out at roughly just over £1200) and it's got 40,000 odd kilometres on the clock. It's 16 years old and I'm only the 3rd registered owner of it (in this country) I had some problems with the running of it in the beginning, but discovered it was the pick-ups on it - since then it's been running fine!

Paid £1500 for my 91' vfr400 nc30 a bit over three years ago. It had around 44k km when I bought it, I've put about 47k km on it myself. Has been fairly reliable, apart from the usual rectifier issues. Not good for heated grips, the charging system isn't very powerful. Good fun and a nice solid engine, it's just started sipping a little oil now.

If i had to buy a sports 400 it'd be either a zxr400 l9 or fzr400, not looked at the fzr's much with a view to buying them but the zxr400's generally sell for quid a lot of money compared to sports 600's cause the masses still want them Thumbs Up. Also the l9 zxr400 is one of few 400 sports bikes that was offically imported i believe.

1990 CBR400, £930 with free ART can and restriction certificate and brand new tyres.

Pretty good condition, couple of scratches, fairings were cracked but fixed up decently and it's not corroded to shit either. I'll have it ruined by the end of the winter Confused

I started with a 1978 CB400/4 which I paid £750 for. Used it for my 33bhp probation period, did it up a bit (not to the extent of my bikes now), sold it for £1500.

Then I had a 1993 Bandit 400VVT. Bit of a naff bike, but handy for the 60 miles a day trip to Uni and back for 2 years - once I'd baggged up all the electrics as they didn't like water. Bought for £1500, sold for £1350.

Final year of Uni I treated myself to a 1989 NC30. Bought for £1500 at the time, was written off when a car rear ended it at 35mph.

Then I had a 1996 CBR400 Gullarm to try and replace the NC30. Didn't have the charm of the V4, or the midrange - an all or nothing bike. Too small for me too. Bought for £1950 from a dealers, sold for £2500 in exchange for...

...my 1994 RVF400. The first proper 'modifyable' 400 I bought. Cost £3350 from a dealers, spent 9 months cleaning and tweaking the thing, thought I wanted a bigger bore sportsbike (which I later found out that I didn't - hence why I sold the Blade), sold for over £4k after someone spotted the ad on Ebay.

After a 10 month stint on my Blade, I came to the realisation that I get most of my biking kicks out of 400s. So I made a deal with a chap who wanted the Blade and ended up with this. Currently insured at £2500, though I'm likely to increase that once I've finished and claimed for all the aftermarket parts.

I had the VFR NC30 and loved it, like most I still have fond (if distant) memories of it. Having ridden the VFR (which is a bit quicker than the RVF) and ZXR 400s back to back, I found the ZXR to be a horrible, gutless bike. My mate had it and it fell apart over winter Rolling Eyes

I'd look hard for a decent NC30 if I was you, leave anything that rattles or smokes though.

Cheers

Grim

My old 1993 GSXR400, cost me too much, they can be had for less than a grand £1500 - 1800 for a very good one.

1992 CBR400rr 38000kms on the clock with a bit of history, new rear tyre, decent chain + sprockets. Bike in pretty much mint condition. Double bubble + standard screen.
Paid £1450 for it around 11 months ago.

Have to agree with you there craig! Even though mine's the tri-arm I find the same problem! Sad
