Had the rear changed at the weekend and today when I went to gesticulate rudely to a car that pulled across me on a junction, the front end started wobbling all over the place as if about to tank slap. was ok up to about 30 or so when I took the weight off the bars but any quicker and the front started going all over the place.

With the new tyre being the only change, could this be down to wheel alignment or is it something else? I need the bike for 4 days of touring at the weekend and I'm a little worried that it's going to be all over the place. If I hold the bars normally then I can't feel anything, it's just when I let the pressure off.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

K.

BT020's front and rear. wasn't in the middle of the road so not hitting cats eyes. will check front pressure (anyone know what it should be? 36?) but still thinking it's the wheel alignment as that's the only possible change recently. it didn't wobble this bad when the rear was only half inflated and chock full of tyre-weld.

Possibly, the rear had only just started to square off though and the front seems to be "nicely curved but flatter in the centre". It's not squared off but has about half to 2/3rds usable tread left.

Will stick up a pic.

Out of balance perhaps?

My front wheel was out of balance a little while ago and would wobble a bit in corners, had it balanced and it's been fine.

those alignment marks are out, but they are as standard any way, get a laser alignment tool and set them properly, you can be out by a lot even when there lined up Very Happy any peeps on here who race and set there own bikes up can probably scare you with tales about how far off std marks are Very Happy

I can't feel any issues with the bike unless I let go of the bars so I'll align the wheel tonight to match the notches both sides and see if it makes a difference.

You should be checking pressures weekly at least!

You MUST always check the pressure when you have had a new tyre fitted as the fitters mostly just stick in around 35psi. I have had one left at 100psi when I checked it before now.

As for the wheel alignment it looks out by the marks but I never go by them anyway as most are put on the swing arm by Stevie Wonder.

I've recently had a moderately worn set of BT-020s replaced front and rear.

Over the last few weeks of using the old ones the handling became increasingly shite. The bike felt really vague in faster corners like the front was going to wash out at any time. Slow speed handling was shocking and I was finding it hard to filter through traffic without dabbing a foot down now and again. Riding without hands was a big no no....

I checked all the various alignments, bearings and bouncy bits and in the end my problems all came down to worn tyres.

The wear on the front tyre can be very deceptive. My advice is think about a new one. I bet if you replace it all your handling woes will vanish. It's expensive, but worth it.

It might be the case, but I'm still drawn back to the rear as it became shockingly different after changing the tyre. Still got to adjust it so will do and give it a run out. If still giving grief then I'll get a fresh one on the front.

Could I undo the rear wheel bolts? Could I feck...

Smile

Rode up to a local garage who gave it a once over and couldn't see anything immediately up with it. I'll book it in for Friday morning for a check up as the wheels may not be balanced properly or out of alignment.

My ZZR was handling great until I had a rear puncture, which meant the wheel had to come off. The dealers did it but when I got the bike back, I noticed that it was weaving and wobbling and generally felt unstable. This only happened since the puncture. I checked the tyre pressures and they were OK (front is 36 psi and rear is 41 psi, by the way). I could see that the back wheel had a new weight stuck on it, so assumed that the wheels had been balanced OK. They cured the problem eventually by loosening the steering race and it's been fine ever since and rides normally again, just like it used to before the puncture.
